What to do if the baby's eye tail is red

Because babies have tender skin and low immunity, they are prone to skin redness and acne. Redness at the corners of babies’ eyes is also a common phenomenon. In fact, there are many factors that lead to redness at the corners of a baby's eyes, such as infection, and new mothers not doing a good job of cleaning their babies. Faced with such a situation, I believe mothers all want to know urgently what to do if the corners of their baby's eyes are red? Let’s take a look at it together below.

(1) Infection factors: intrauterine infection of the newborn or contact with vaginal secretions containing bacteria during delivery, contaminated hands of the midwife, or unclean supplies that the newborn comes into contact with after birth. If the caregiver's hands, the child's own hands, or a towel that is not thoroughly disinfected is used to wipe the child's eyes, it will cause inflammation of the child's conjunctiva, resulting in excessive and sticky eye mucus.

(2) Non-infectious factors: In some children, the nasolacrimal duct is blocked by epithelial cell residues or the nasolacrimal duct mucosa is blocked, causing tears and secretions in the tear duct to be retained in the lacrimal sac and causing dacryocystitis. Such children have a cystic tumor in the lacrimal sac with a slightly bluish surface. If the lacrimal sac on the inner side of the eye is gently pressed, mucous or mucopurulent secretions can be seen overflowing from the tear point at the lower edge of the inner corner of the eye, and the tumor disappears. Solution: Keep the indoor temperature and humidity moderate, open windows for ventilation twice a day for 20 minutes each time to ensure fresh indoor air. Do a good job of disinfecting the items used by children and ensure that all their supplies are clean and hygienic. For children with a lot of eye mucus and conjunctival congestion, you can use normal saline to clean the eyes, and then use 1% erythromycin eye drops or 0.25% chloramphenicol eye drops three times a day during the day, and use chloramphenicol eye ointment at night. For children with nasolacrimal duct obstruction or dacryocystitis, ask a professional doctor to flush the tear duct, then use antibiotic eye drops 6 times a day, take oral antibiotics, and massage the lacrimal sac 3 times a day for treatment. Children with excessive eye mucus and tearing who have not responded well to antibiotic treatment should go to a professional hospital for examination and then receive targeted treatment. You should ask a professional doctor to check, and the professional doctor will give appropriate treatment based on the child's condition. Reasons why babies have a lot of eye mucus:

1. For normal children, when they are 2-3 months old, they may have some eye mucus on their eyes when they wake up in the morning. This is because the eyelashes tend to grow inward during this period, and the friction and stimulation of the eyeballs produce eye mucus. Generally, around 1 year old, eyelashes will grow outwards naturally and eye mucus will gradually decrease, so there is no need for treatment. You can wipe it clean with a warm towel or use a cotton swab dipped in 2% boric acid solution and gently wipe it from the inner corner of the eye to the outer corner.

2. If a child is born with a layer of grayish white stuff on his eyes, it is not eye boogers. This layer of grayish white stuff is medically called "vernix caseosa". Vernix caseosa has the function of protecting the skin and preventing heat dissipation. It can be absorbed by itself, so it cannot be wiped off casually. Another reason for excessive eye mucus is that the child has accumulated heat in the body, which is commonly known as "getting angry".

3. Most of the time, it is caused by the habit of eating high-calorie foods such as fish , shrimp, and meat, and less consumption of fruits and vegetables. In addition to excessive eye mucus, it is often accompanied by symptoms such as fear of heat, sweating, dry stool, and thick tongue coating. The best way to treat it is to change bad eating habits, drink more water, and take some Chinese medicine to clear away heat and fire, and to help digestion and relieve stagnation when necessary.

4. If your child suddenly has a lot of eye mucus and is accompanied by itchy and red eyes, you should go to the hospital for a check-up to see if he has "pink eye disease." In addition to the topical use of chloramphenicol eye drops and erythromycin ointment for this disease, personal hygiene should also be emphasized. Children should be reminded not to rub their eyes with dirty hands, and not to share washbasins, towels and other bathing items with others to prevent cross infection.

5. The baby's nasolacrimal duct is underdeveloped . The nasolacrimal duct of infants is short and underdeveloped, and the valve at the opening is underdeveloped and located at the inner canthus of the eye. This prevents tears from draining smoothly, leading to accumulation of eye mucus. Cleaning method: If the cause is incomplete development of the nasolacrimal duct, the mother can massage the baby's nose bridge with her hands every day to help keep the nasolacrimal duct unobstructed.
