What should I do if my baby vomits due to indigestion?

It is actually quite normal for babies to spit up milk. Sometimes it is a problem with the feeding posture. Some babies who are not breastfed may spit up milk due to the type of milk powder or too much intake. In fact, most of them are caused by indigestion in babies. So is this normal?

1. When the baby spits up milk, the first step is to hold the baby upright. The next step is to tilt the baby's head to either side to allow the milk to flow out smoothly. Never let the baby's head tilt upwards, otherwise the milk will easily flow into the trachea. If vomiting occurs while the baby is lying flat: quickly turn the baby's face to one side to prevent the vomit from flowing back into the throat and trachea due to gravity.

2. Roll a handkerchief or towel around your fingers and insert it into your mouth or even your throat to roughly and quickly clean out the vomited or spilled milk and food to keep the respiratory tract open and avoid obstructing breathing. At this time, cleaning the oral cavity is more important than the nasal cavity! Therefore, you should always have a small handkerchief or towel with you in case of emergency (you can use a small cotton swab to clean the nostrils).

3. If you find that your baby is holding his breath or his face turns darker, it means that the vomit may have entered the trachea. Immediately lay his face down on an adult's lap or on a hard bed, and pat his back four to five times to allow him to cough it out.

4. If all these steps have been done but the baby still does not respond, immediately and forcefully stimulate the soles of his feet (either pinching or squeezing) to make the baby breathe because of the pain. The most important thing at this time is to allow the baby to inhale and allow oxygen to enter the lungs to avoid hypoxia. In the moment of choking and saving lives, the most important thing is to buy time to get air (oxygen) into the lungs, rather than wasting time thinking about how to remove foreign objects. This concept is very important.
