What are the causes of ADHD in children?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children worries many parents because it affects their children's study and life. ADHD in children is related to the mother's heavy smoking, some genetic factors, or vitamin deficiency and food allergies.

1. Heavy smoking or drinking

The mothers of the affected children often had more complications during pregnancy or perinatal period, and often had a history of heavy smoking or alcohol abuse.

2. Genetic factors

For example, the blood brothers and fathers of the affected children often show signs of hyperactivity or inattention; the incidence of the disease among monozygotic twins is as high as 51% to 64%; there are also many relatives who suffer from alcoholism, antisocial personality disorder and hysteria.

3. Neurotransmitters

Although the results of enzyme research are often contradictory, it is still a way to study the cause of this disease.

4. Severe lead poisoning can cause fatal toxic encephalopathy, dementia and other neurological damage , but there is no conclusion yet on whether mild lead poisoning can cause ADHD.

5. Influence of social, family and psychological factors

For example, unfavorable social environment or family conditions (broken families, economic poverty, crowded housing, parents with bad personalities, alcoholism, drug abuse, mental illness, etc.) can all be triggers of the disease and affect the development of the disease and prognosis.

6. Other factors

Nutritional problems, vitamin deficiencies, food allergies, food flavorings or added artificial colors may make children more susceptible to ADHD.

7. Harm to individuals

Children with mild ADHD simply cannot concentrate on their studies and cannot take the initiative to learn, resulting in poor academic performance; they cannot control their behavior, and are disobedient and discriminated against. Children with severe ADHD experience a significant decline in academic performance, are unable to keep up with the class, and have difficulty completing elementary and junior high school. Behavior that causes trouble and interferes with others. As they grow older, they lose self-control and are more susceptible to bad influences and temptations, which may lead to fighting, lying, stealing, and even committing crimes.
