What to eat for children with impaired vision

Not only is the social pressure high, but children nowadays also have a heavy academic workload. In addition, things like mobile phones, computers, and tablets are all around us. If children do not pay attention to protecting their eyes, it is easy to cause vision loss. When this happens, parents can improve the situation through some dietary therapy, which can have certain effects. So, what should children with declining eyesight eat? Let’s take a closer look below.

To prevent vision loss, we should first know which nutrients contribute to vision development. It is well known that when VA is deficient, the eyes' ability to adapt to dark environments decreases, and in severe cases, they are prone to night blindness. VA can also prevent and treat dry eye disease. Foods rich in VA include animal liver, cod liver oil, milk and eggs, plant foods such as carrots, amaranth, spinach, leeks, green peppers, red sweet potatoes, and fruits such as oranges, apricots, persimmons, etc.

Secondly, Vitamin B1: VB1 is one of the nutritional sources of the optic nerve. When BV1 is insufficient, the eyes are prone to fatigue; when VB2 is insufficient, it is easy to cause keratitis. Foods rich in B vitamins include sesame, soybeans, fresh milk, malt and so on.

Also, don't let your children eat too much sweets: excessive sweets will consume a large amount of VB1 in the body, causing children's eyesight to deteriorate and even cause poor visual development. Excess sugar can also lead to a decrease in chromium stores in the body. Lack of chromium can cause changes in blood osmotic pressure, which in turn can lead to changes in the osmotic pressure of the eye lens and aqueous humor. When the osmotic pressure of the aqueous humor is lower than the osmotic pressure of the lens, the aqueous humor will pass through the lens capsule into the lens, causing the lens to become convex, and the refractive power of the eye will increase, resulting in myopia. Whole grains are rich in chromium, and children should be fed whole grains regularly to avoid chromium deficiency in their bodies.

The third is vitamin C: VC is one of the components of the lens of the eye. Lack of vitamin C can easily lead to cataracts, which is a cloudy lens. Fresh vegetables and fruits are rich in VC.

The fourth is vitamin E: VE has an antioxidant effect, can inhibit the lipid peroxidation reaction in the lens, dilate peripheral blood vessels, improve blood circulation, and has a certain auxiliary effect in the treatment of certain eye diseases. The VE content in nuts and bananas is relatively high. Let children eat a certain amount of nuts every day, which is beneficial to their eyesight.

Fourth, high-quality protein and calcium: Lack of protein can easily cause vision fatigue. Protein is the main component of cells. Children should consume enough high-quality protein such as eggs, milk and meat. Calcium has the effect of eliminating eye strain, so you should also eat foods rich in calcium such as beans, green leafy vegetables, and dried shrimps.

A child with poor eyesight will definitely make parents very anxious. After all, the child is still relatively young, so they are very concerned about what to eat for children with declining eyesight. Diet therapy is a very good way to improve poor eyesight. However, the key is to let children develop good living habits, pay attention to protecting their eyes, and gradually improve vision problems.
