Causes of knee pain in children

Causes of knee pain in children

When a child says his knee hurts, there are two reasons: First, the child grows too fast and lacks calcium in the bones. Leg deformation may occur. Then take children's calcium tablets appropriately, and drink more bone soup, vegetables and other foods in life. When the weather is good, go out and bask in the sun to promote calcium absorption. The second reason is growing pains in children. Please note that this is because the bones grow too fast and the local muscle tissue cannot keep up. The pain is relatively mild and will not affect the child's body. It will heal on its own after a while and no treatment is needed.

1. There is a type of knee pain that occurs in adolescents who grow rapidly and do less exercise. The pain is located near the kneecap. This type of child cannot run fast or with big strides, and will suffer from knee pain after the slightest exercise. During the examination, it was found that the flexibility of the lower limb muscle joints was very poor. When lying down, the thighs could not even be raised beyond 90 degrees. This was because the tight posterior thigh tendon caused excessive burden on the kneecap. With just a few months of stretching and flexibility exercises, knee pain will naturally disappear.

2. Ankylosing spondylitis: About 1/3 of patients experience lower limb knee pain during the peak growth and development period of adolescence (12 to 16 years old).

3. Abnormal folds in the knee, femoral osteochondritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, suppurative arthritis, osteomyelitis, synovial osteochondroma, etc. can also cause knee pain.

Children's knee pain may also be caused by disease. If a child suddenly becomes unable to stand, has leg pain, and is accompanied by fever and joint swelling, it means that he or she has transient hip periostitis. There are other diseases that can cause knee pain in children. What parents need to do is to observe whether the pain persists and whether the joints are deformed or swollen, so as to help doctors better confirm the condition when seeking medical treatment.
