What are the methods to treat myopia in children?

Myopia in children is the most common disease in today's society. Nowadays, children watch a lot of mobile phones, computers, and TV every day, which can easily cause children's eyesight to decline. If children's eyesight declines, their vision will be blurred and they can't see things clearly. Children's vision is also the most worrying thing for many families. There are many treatments for children's myopia, so what are the methods to treat children's vision?

(1) Ciliary muscle paralysis:

It is to use ciliary muscle paralyzing drugs to relax the ciliary muscle and put the eye in a static refractive state, and then check the vision and optometry to confirm. Use 1% atropine eye drops, 1 to 2 times a day for 3 to 4 days; or 2% homatropine or 0.5% tropicamide once every 5 to 15 minutes for a total of 6 times. Check naked eye vision under a pinhole mirror before and after the drops are instilled. If the vision does not change after dilation, it is true myopia; if the vision increases, it is false myopia; if the myopia refraction is found during eye examination, it is true; if there is no myopia refraction, it is false. This is recognized as the most reliable method for differential diagnosis.

(2) Cloud and mist method:

Ask the patient to wear +3.0D spherical lenses for both eyes at the same time, look at distant objects for 3 minutes, then remove the right lens and check the naked eye vision immediately. If the vision improves, it is false, and if it does not improve, it is true. Then check the left eye in the same way. This method is not entirely accurate.

(3) Dynamic retinoscopy without mydriasis:

① First check the naked eye vision of both eyes at near and far distance. Patients with poor distance vision, normal near vision and no other eye diseases that affect vision are the targets of identification.

②The doctor and the patient sit facing each other in a dark room.

③The patient wears a trial frame with a +2.25D spherical lens placed in front of both eyes.

④ The patient looks at the upper sight mark of the retinoscope with both eyes at the same time (a No. 5 character or a character with few strokes such as large, small, up, or down is pasted on the side of the reflector, and illuminated by the slit light beside the retinoscope);

⑤ Perform dynamic retinoscopy at a distance of 33 cm.

You can try these methods when treating your child's myopia, but your child's myopia is a disease that needs timely treatment because it will get worse over time and vision loss will become more and more severe, which will have a greater impact on the child. Myopia is not very serious, but if it is not controlled in time, the child's myopia will worsen and surgery is required.
