What are the symptoms of vitiligo in children?

What are the symptoms of vitiligo in children?

Vitiligo in children is actually a relatively common disease, and the symptoms it brings are also very obvious. For example, the skin loses pigment, and the lost areas are irregular in shape. It may occur all over the body, which is a very obvious symptom. Vitiligo in children is something that all parents should pay attention to. This disease requires timely treatment and care to have a chance of recovery.

Vitiligo in children is different from vitiligo in adults in terms of its clinical manifestations and immunological characteristics. Studies have shown that there are obvious gender differences in vitiligo in children, with a high proportion of segmental types and fewer associated autoimmune diseases.

Symptoms

1. Skin pigmentation loss

Skin depigmentation manifests as changes in skin color, appearing as porcelain white spots. The size and shape of the white spots are different. The lesions are clearly demarcated from healthy skin, and the pigmentation at the edges increases. Patients will not feel obvious discomfort.

2. White spots expand in area

As the condition of vitiligo continues to progress, the area of white spots will gradually expand. This is mainly because after exposure to the sun, the affected skin will develop red spots or even blisters, and there will be a burning sensation. After inflammation occurs, the white spots will be larger than the original area. Skin lesions may also occur in any part of the body, the most common of which are the back of the fingers, wrists, forearms, neck, face, genitals and their surrounding areas. The white spots are often distributed symmetrically or unilaterally, or in a band-like pattern along nerves.

3. Hypopigmentation of mucosa

The main manifestation of mucosal hypopigmentation is the lack of pigmentation at the edges of white spots on the head. Some white spots will disappear on their own, and some patients will experience mucosal hypopigmentation. This phenomenon is most common on the lips, followed by the external genitalia. Eye pigmentation will also be affected to a certain extent, but it often does not affect vision. Patients need to distinguish this mucosal vitiligo from mucosal leukoplakia.

Pay attention to calcium supplementation

Vitiligo in children can easily cause a large loss of calcium in the baby's body. Calcium is very important for the baby's growth and development. The transmembrane flow of calcium and the concentration conditions inside and outside the cell have a great relationship with the pathogenesis of vitiligo. If the calcium ion balance in the baby's body is abnormal, it will cause abnormal melanin production in the baby's body and cause vitiligo in the baby.

Chicken liver paste is usually used to supplement calcium for children with vitiligo. It can supplement phosphorus and contains a large amount of calcium, vitamin B2, zinc, protein, vitamin A, iron, vitamin B1, niacin and other nutrients. It can be taken by babies over 6 months old. The main ingredients are: 15 grams of chicken liver, 150 milliliters of chicken bone soup, a little soy sauce and honey; when making it, put the chicken liver into boiling water to remove the blood, then cook for 10 minutes, take out, peel off the outer skin, put it in a container and grind it for later use. Put the chicken rack soup into a small pot, add the ground chicken liver, cook into a paste, add a little soy sauce and honey, stir well and it is done;
