My child always feels something in his throat

My child always feels something in his throat

Children are not particularly sensitive to abnormal conditions in their bodies, so they will only inform their parents when the situation develops to a serious level. Among them, the sensation of a foreign body in the throat is a condition that many people will experience, and children will also often feel the foreign body sensation in the throat. If parents know that their children have a foreign body sensation in their throats, they should first understand the cause of the foreign body sensation in their children's throats in a timely manner.

Causes of foreign body sensation in throat

1. Hyperplasia of lymphoid follicles in the posterior pharyngeal wall

The human body has a natural barrier to defend against invasion by viruses and bacteria, the most common of which is the skin. In addition, there are barriers that are invisible to the naked eye, such as lymphatic tissue. There is extensive distribution of lymphatic tissue under the mucosa of normal people. Lymph follicles are normal lymphatic tissue scattered under the mucosa of the throat.

There are many causes of hyperplasia of the posterior pharyngeal wall lymph follicles, including acute and chronic diseases, such as acute upper respiratory tract infection, chronic pharyngitis, allergic rhinitis, etc. Adults who smoke and drink for a long time may also have hyperplasia of lymph follicles.

Hyperplasia of lymphoid follicles on the posterior pharyngeal wall may cause discomfort in the pharynx, such as pain, foreign body sensation, and blockage. Many children with retropharyngeal lymph follicle hyperplasia are diagnosed when they go to the hospital for treatment because of a foreign body sensation in the throat. Of course, there are also some children who do not have any symptoms. When they enter school, the school doctor examines them and finds that they have hyperplasia of the posterior pharyngeal lymph follicles.

2. Pharyngeal paresthesia

Throat paresthesia refers to various throat sensations other than throat pain, such as a foreign body, crawling ants, burning, tightness, stuffiness, and narrowing. It is obvious when the patient swallows empty throat, but is alleviated or disappears when eating. There is generally no pain or only mild throat pain.

The pharynx is innervated by extremely rich nerves. The sensory and motor nerves mainly come from the pharyngeal plexus on the posterior pharyngeal wall, which contains the pharyngeal branch of the vagus nerve, the glossopharyngeal nerve, the accessory nerve, the cranial roots and the cervical sympathetic nerve branches, and the branches of the second division of the trigeminal nerve. Therefore, the throat is very sensitive, which is the main cause of this disease.

There are four main causes of this disease:

① Long-term nasal congestion prevents air from flowing normally, thus causing this feeling;

② Long-term suffering from rhinitis and other diseases leads to bacterial growth;

③Long-term recurrent throat infection, resulting in a foreign body sensation in the throat;

④ Gastric acid reflux affects the throat, causing a foreign body sensation.

3. Chronic pharyngitis

A foreign body sensation in the throat may be caused by chronic pharyngitis. The symptoms of chronic pharyngitis are a foreign body sensation in the throat, itching, burning, dryness, and slight pain. The secretion may be more or less, but it is sticky and often adheres to the throat wall, causing a foreign body sensation in the throat. This is also the cause of the foreign body sensation in the throat.

4. Nasal diseases

Like nasopharyngitis, this disease can also affect the upper respiratory system, causing a feeling of something stuck in the throat.

5. Diseases of the throat

Diseases such as epiglottic cysts and esophagitis can cause the throat muscles to expand, giving the feeling that something is stuck in the throat.

6. Swollen tonsils

The foreign body sensation in children's throat is related to enlarged tonsils.
