Why does the baby yawn and shed tears?

Although the baby is still young, his facial expressions and movements are basically the same as those of adults. In particular, babies also yawn. Just like adults, they also shed tears when they yawn. This situation is generally normal, so parents should not be too nervous when their babies do this. So why do babies yawn and shed tears? Let’s take a brief look at it below.

When people yawn, they open their mouths very wide to let as much air out of the body as possible in order to exhale carbon dioxide and inhale oxygen. As you yawn, a stream of air is forcefully exhaled from your mouth, and the muscles in your cheeks, tongue, and throat tense and contract, increasing the pressure in your oral and nasal cavities. The increased nasal pressure will temporarily block the nasolacrimal duct from draining tears. The "sewer" is blocked, and the tears cannot flow down. More and more tears accumulate in the eyes, causing the eyes to become tearful, and finally the tears burst out of the eyes and flow down the face. In fact, not only yawning can cause tears, but people can also shed tears when laughing, sneezing, coughing, and vomiting. The principle is the same.

Human tears are secreted all the time and flow on the surface of the eyeball. However, the tears secreted normally are very little, and they flow along the surface of the eyeball and in the tiny gaps inside the eyelids, so you don't feel the tears flowing. However, in the moment of yawning and blinking, the tears on the surface of the eyeball are sucked into the tear sewer - the nasolacrimal duct. Don't underestimate this thin tube, it is the only way for tears to reach the nasal cavity. The lacrimal glands continuously secrete tears, and the nasolacrimal ducts continuously discharge tears, so people do not normally shed tears.

Through the above introduction, we know why babies yawn and shed tears. We should also pay attention to observe the child's condition in normal times. If the child always has this phenomenon, we must pay attention to it. We must ensure regular ventilation in the room. In addition, we must ensure that the baby gets enough sleep. If the baby is found to have any abnormal conditions, we must go to the hospital for examination.
