The baby is coughing but in good spirits

Coughing is a very common disease in babies during their growth process. It is usually caused by infection or inflammation in the baby's respiratory tract. External stimulation can also easily cause the baby to cough. If the baby coughs but is in good spirits, it proves that the baby is relatively energetic. Parents need to treat their children in time and give them more cough-relieving foods.

My baby is coughing but in good spirits, what's going on?

Cough is a common respiratory symptom caused by inflammation, foreign bodies, physical or chemical stimulation of the trachea, bronchial mucosa or pleura. Coughing and sputum production in three-year-old children are often related to upper respiratory tract infection and pneumonia. If a chest X-ray shows no signs of inflammation in the lungs, it is probably caused by an upper respiratory tract infection.

Baby cough

What should you do if your baby coughs? Parents can slightly raise the baby's head at night and give him more warm water to thin the phlegm. You can also use steam inhalation.

How to deal with baby coughing

Coughing is not a disease, but a symptom of many diseases. A baby's cough is a defensive reflex action of the body to expel respiratory secretions or foreign objects. In other words, coughing is a protective physiological phenomenon for babies. But if the cough is too severe and affects diet, sleep and rest, then it loses its protective significance.

Therefore, when a baby coughs, it is important to identify the cause and then treat it accordingly. When your baby coughs, parents can take the following four measures.

1. Raise your baby's head at night.

2. Drink more warm drinks.

It can make the baby's sticky phlegm thinner, relieve the tension of the respiratory mucosa, and promote the coughing up of phlegm. It is best to let your baby drink warm water or warm milk, rice soup, etc. You can also give your baby fresh fruit juice, but it is not suitable to drink citrus juice such as orange juice and grapefruit juice.

3. Steam cough relief method.

If your baby has a severe cough, let him/her inhale steam; or hold your baby in a steam-filled bathroom for 5 minutes. The humid air will help clear mucus from your baby's lungs and calm your cough.

4. Use a hot water bag to relieve cough.

Fill a hot water bottle with hot water at about 40℃, wrap it with a thin towel, and then apply it to the baby's back near the lungs. This can speed up the expulsion of cold and is especially effective for cough symptoms that appear in the early stages of colds.
