If your child still poops standing up when he grows up, he may suffer from functional encopresis

Children's urination and defecation are always a problem for parents. Whether children should use diapers, whether they should be held to pee, and whether to choose closed-crotch pants or open-crotch pants are always the focus of attention and debate among parents, grandparents and parenting experts. For some children, they still poop while standing even when they are already big. In this case, parents should not criticize their children, but take them to the hospital for examination, because this may be functional encopresis.

1. The result of the interaction of multiple factors

The causes of functional encopresis in children are diverse, involving family, school, environment, and interpersonal relationships. It is the result of the interaction of multiple factors. Its occurrence mechanism may be related to genetic factors, delayed development and maturation of the nervous system, improper educational methods, and psychosocial factors.

The disease may be caused by the child's conscious lack of bowel training since childhood, excessive study pressure, bullying or mental stimulation, or frequent constipation or obesity. These are not caused by specific diseases and most require behavioral and psychological intervention.

2. Active prevention and control measures should be taken

Functional encopresis is a disease that should not be ignored. Its impact on children is not limited to the body. More importantly, it affects their psychological development and even the formation of a good personality, and ultimately affects the normal development of children's abilities and potential. It should attract the attention of parents and teachers, and active measures should be taken to prevent and treat it.

Training children to develop good bowel habits from an early age is the most effective way to prevent the disease. When the child is 18 months old, you can cultivate his daily regular bowel movement and encourage him to sit on the toilet for a while every day. Parents should carefully observe the baby's bowel movement time every day, as well as the baby's expression and movements before bowel movement, to understand the baby's bowel movement pattern.

3. Things to pay attention to when teaching your baby to defecate

1. Place a toilet suitable for your child near the children's activity area, tell your child when to use it, or shake the feces from the diaper into the toilet in front of the child so that the child understands its purpose.

2. Remind your child if he/she needs to defecate based on the signs you observe, such as a funny expression on his/her face or a posture for defecation.

3. Let your child sit on it without taking off his pants for the first few days. When the child gets used to it, try to remove the diaper. Don't remove diapers until your child is able to use the toilet several times a day.

4. Do not intentionally let your child carry a wet diaper as a punishment; when your child is ready for training, you can let him wear pants that he can take off and pull up at will.

5. Remind your child to go to the toilet before going to bed and after waking up.

6. The training of controlling urination and defecation during sleep can start one year later, but it can also be done at the same time.
