Diagnostic criteria for childhood obesity

The incidence of childhood obesity has become quite high nowadays, but many parents still do not pay attention to it. If your child is overweight, it is very dangerous and you must take your child to the hospital for examination. Once it happens, it may have a significant impact on the child's future development and will also induce a lot of diseases, the most common of which are hypertension and coronary heart disease.

The standard for childhood obesity generally refers to a weight that is 2 standard deviations higher than the average weight of healthy children of the same gender, age, or height; or a weight that is 20% higher than the average weight of children of the same age and gender. Obesity caused simply by overeating is often seen in clinical practice and is called simple obesity.

In recent years, the incidence of simple obesity has been increasing in my country. Childhood obesity can be a precursor to adult obesity, hypertension, coronary heart disease and diabetes. Since it is also a chronic metabolic disorder, it should be taken seriously and prevented as early as possible. Simple obesity is the most common type of obesity, accounting for about 95% of the obese population, mainly caused by genetic factors and overnutrition.

Simple obesity in children refers to long-term energy intake exceeding consumption, resulting in excessive fat accumulation in the body, to the point where the weight exceeds the standard for normal children of the same age and height. It is a chronic disease with multiple causes and can be combined with multiple diseases, which is characterized by excessive body fat content. It is a common nutritional imbalance phenomenon. Simple obesity is closely related to lifestyle. It is a chronic disease characterized by excessive nutrition, lack of exercise, and behavioral deviations, which is characterized by excessive proliferation and accumulation of adipose tissue throughout the body. It can occur at any age, but is more common in infants, 5 to 6 years old, and adolescence.

Simple obesity is a serious health and social problem in the 21st century. It is one of the problems that are currently recognized as seriously endangering children's health. It is an important disease in today's developed countries and economically developed regions. The prevalence of obesity will have serious social and economic consequences for individuals and society, and prevention should start from childhood. Treatment of simple childhood obesity requires a comprehensive program based on exercise prescription, with behavior correction as the key technology and health education implemented throughout.

The so-called "weight loss" or "weight reduction" should not be implemented in children. The goal of controlling simple obesity in children is to cultivate a scientific and correct lifestyle and eliminate risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. There are four taboos in controlling childhood obesity: short-term rapid weight loss is strictly prohibited, starvation and disguised starvation therapy are strictly prohibited, drug weight loss is strictly prohibited, and surgical fat removal is strictly prohibited. This is not only a technical issue, but also a medical ethics issue.
