How to develop children's memory

Childhood is the most critical period for memory development. During childhood, as long as the children's memory is developed through reasonable and scientific means, the children's memory can definitely be improved. Many parents always complain that their children have poor memory. Let us take a look at how to develop children's memory?

1. Enrich children’s living environment. Only with life experience can there be memory. Some children are very young, but because they are "knowledgeable", they can remember and talk about a lot of things they have seen and heard. Parents should provide their children with a rich and colorful living environment from an early age, let their children play with toys of various colors, sounds, and activities, let their children listen to music, talk to their children more, read nursery rhymes and poems to their children, tell stories, take their children to parks, zoos, and shops, play games with their children, etc. These will leave a deep impression on their children and will remain in their memory for a long time. These impressions will cause associations when you encounter new things, making it easier to remember new things.

2. Assign memorization tasks to your children. In order to cultivate children's conscious memory ability, conscious memory tasks can be assigned to children aged 2-3 years old. The simplest task is to ask the child to get something or pass on a message. As children grow older, the memorization tasks assigned can become more complex, such as asking them to remember the rules of a game, retell a story, or talk about what they saw during a visit.

3. Cultivate children's interest in learning. Adults tend to easily remember things that interest them, but on the contrary, they will force themselves to remember things that they are not interested in. Young children often cannot do this and find it difficult to remember things they are not interested in. Therefore, if you want young children to learn certain knowledge and skills, you cannot rely on coercion or commands, but instead you need to stimulate children's interest in learning. Some children can recognize a lot of words at the age of 2-3, and some become famous writers at a very young age. This is because they are interested in what they are learning and are willing to study diligently.

4. Guide children on how to improve their memory. The quality of memory is not entirely innate; it can be trained and improved. Parents should pay attention to maintaining their children's self-confidence. Some parents often scold their children: "You can't remember anything, you have no memory at all, it's useless to say anything to you", etc., which are very hurtful to their self-esteem. Parents should understand their children’s memory deficiencies and the reasons why they cannot remember things well or correctly. They should help their children patiently and give them more encouragement. Parents should provide guidance on memory methods according to the different age groups of their children. Young children have a short memory retention period, and mechanical memory is the main method of memory. If you want them to remember something, you have to repeat it constantly. You can teach them to recite some nursery rhymes, poems, tongue twisters, and remember some simple scientific knowledge. Children before entering school already have the ability to memorize consciously, and they can be taught to use memorization methods such as sequential memory, classification memory, and associative memory. After entering school, you need to memorize the text, and you can use methods such as overall memory and segmented memory.

There are many ways to develop children's memory. Some parents even buy memory-enhancing supplements for their children. In fact, poor memory among children is a relatively common phenomenon. Don't be too hasty to help children develop their memory. As long as you follow the scientific methods above, you can easily help children develop their memory.
