1. Port wine stains

Generally, newborns with hemangiomas will have some dark red or bluish-red spots. These spots are also called telangiectatic nevus or port-wine nevus. Their edges are irregular, not protruding from the skin surface, and they fade easily when pressed. They are more common in the head and neck, often appearing at birth, and may increase in size as the body grows. Those occurring on the occipital region, forehead, or bridge of the nose may resolve on their own, while larger or extensive lesions often persist for life.

2. Strawberry-shaped nevus

There will also be one or several bright red, soft, lobed tumors that do not fade when pressed. They are also called strawberry nevi and are common on the head and neck. They usually do not appear at birth but appear within a few weeks after birth, enlarge within a few months, grow rapidly, and can even reach several centimeters. Most of them grow to their maximum size within 1 year of age and then regress on their own, disappearing completely or incompletely within a few years.

4. Cavernous hemangioma

Widely dilated, thin-walled, large and irregular blood vessel cavities are seen, which are very similar to venous sinuses. Endothelial cells rarely proliferate, and their outer membranes thicken to form thick fibrous walls.

Causes of neonatal hemangiomas

Many mothers don’t know why their children suffer from neonatal hemangioma for no reason. In fact, there is a reason for everything! Hemangioma is a benign tumor that occurs in vascular tissue. It is mainly a vascular malformation caused by abnormal vascular development during embryonic development, abnormal vascular development or differentiation. It is a true tumor caused by abnormal proliferation of vascular endothelial cells.
