Why does my child keep blinking?

Eyes are our first window to directly contact the world. It is through eyes that we can learn and see things. If there is a problem with the eyes, it will have a great impact on us, and it will be even more harmful to children. In recent years, the number of children suffering from eye diseases has increased significantly, and the most common symptom is frequent blinking. So why do children keep blinking? Let’s find out together.

If a child keeps blinking, it may be due to Tourette syndrome, also known as tics. The cause of this disease has not yet been elucidated. Recent research reports suggest that it may be the result of the interaction of genetic factors, neurophysiology, biochemical metabolism and environmental factors during the development process.

Tourette syndrome is characterized by involuntary, sudden, rapidly repetitive muscle twitches, often accompanied by explosive, involuntary vocalizations and obscenities. The tic symptoms start from the face and neck and gradually spread downwards. The locations and forms of twitching vary, such as blinking, squinting, pouting, shaking head, shrugging shoulders, shrinking neck, stretching arms, swinging arms, straightening chest, bending over, rotating body, etc.

It is very common for this disease to have adverse effects on personality, and some people are still unable to adapt to society even after the tics are controlled. Therefore, we should emphasize the treatment of causes and symptoms while paying attention to psychological treatment. Psychotherapy includes behavioral therapy, supportive psychological counseling, family therapy, etc. Help parents and teachers of children with the disease understand the nature and characteristics of the disease, and reduce or eliminate parents' worries and anxieties. Reasonably arrange the child's daily schedule and activities to avoid excessive stress and fatigue.

Through the symptoms introduced above, parents can determine whether their children suffer from tics by comparison. In addition to tics, there are many other eye diseases that can cause blinking symptoms. If you cannot confirm it, you need to be examined and diagnosed by a professional doctor. Here we call on parents to pay attention to their children’s proper use of eyes while supervising their children’s studies, and to avoid excessive eye fatigue and damage to the eyes.
