Does a small fetal head affect intelligence?

Since the last century, our country has implemented family planning and eugenics policies, not only to reduce population growth, but also to improve the general quality of the population. When modern people give birth to offspring, they are very concerned about their offspring's health and intellectual development. Some prospective parents find that the fetus's head is relatively small during prenatal examinations, and they are afraid that it will affect the child's intelligence. In fact, this is very unscientific, because the intellectual development of the fetus, in addition to congenital factors, also requires high levels of acquired training.

A child's small head circumference suggests that his brain is restricted by a small skull or is underdeveloped. There are many reasons for a small head circumference. For example, harmful factors such as infection, malnutrition, poisoning, radiation, etc. in the mother's early pregnancy can affect the fetal brain development. If the child suffers from metabolic diseases, chromosomal abnormalities, etc., it may also cause microcephaly. If a child suffers trauma or infection during or after birth, it may cause brain atrophy and a reduction in head circumference.

In some children, microcephaly runs in the family, which is called hereditary microcephaly. A head circumference that is too small will inevitably limit the development of the child's brain. Generally speaking, children with microcephaly have a small and pointed head and a narrow forehead. They may have physical and intellectual disabilities, and some children may also suffer from convulsions. If a baby is born with a smaller-than-average head, it does not mean that the baby's intelligence is affected. A comprehensive analysis is needed.

Through the above introduction, everyone should have a more detailed understanding of the development of the fetal head. We should face up to the problem of small fetal head. If it is not caused by disease, it will generally not affect physical and intellectual development. If the fetal head is slowly developed and accompanied by drooling, difficulty in movement and other symptoms, it may be caused by disease and should be promptly treated in the hospital.
