Baby's scalp is hot but forehead is not hot

Babies have relatively less hair on their heads, so parents should buy some hats for their babies to prevent their heads from catching cold during daily outings. And the problem that parents are most afraid of encountering with their babies is fever. If the fever becomes serious, it will have a great impact on the baby's brain nerves and even affect the baby's life. But if you find that the temperature on the baby's scalp is very high, but the forehead is not hot, what's going on?

This is because the baby's head has abundant blood supply, so the temperature will be higher. In addition, the sweat glands in the skin of young babies are not yet fully developed and cannot sweat well. Once the body needs to sweat, it will be concentrated in the head and occipital area. Because the hair roots are connected to the outside world, hair becomes the main channel for sweating, so babies often have hot heads and sweat a lot.

For children with cold heads, one-third of the heat dissipated through the body surface is dissipated from the head. A hot head can easily lead to irritability, dizziness and unconsciousness. The head is most likely to get "hot", and children are often the first to get hot in the head when they are sick. If a child keeps his head cool and his feet warm, he will definitely feel refreshed and his blood circulation will be smooth.

How to correctly determine whether a child has a fever.

Common misjudgment methods:

1. If the mother touches the baby's palms and forehead with her hands and feels that the baby's skin is hot, she may mistakenly think that the baby has a fever.

2. When a mother uses a thermometer to measure her baby's temperature and finds that the baby's temperature is over 37 degrees, she will mistakenly think that the baby has a fever.

The correct judgment method is as follows:

Please note that the mother's hand is not a thermometer. If the baby has a fever, it means that the baby's body temperature is abnormally high. The normal armpit temperature of the baby is 36-37 degrees. Only when the baby's temperature measured by a thermometer is over 37.4 degrees, can it be considered that the baby has a fever.

However, it should be noted that the baby's body temperature will fluctuate under the influence of certain external factors. For example, the baby's body temperature in the evening is higher than that in the morning. Your baby's temperature may also temporarily rise after crying, exercising, or eating. If the baby's clothes are too thick or the indoor temperature is too high, the baby's body temperature will also rise. If there is a temporary, small fluctuation in body temperature, the baby is generally not considered to be sick as long as the rest of the body is normal and the baby is energetic.

Therefore, if the sides of the baby's head are hotter than the forehead, it does not necessarily mean that the baby has a fever. After correctly judging whether the baby has a fever, you should take correct measures in time, using both physical cooling and drug cooling methods to reduce the baby's body temperature to normal levels. It should be noted that if medication is used to reduce fever, the dosage should not be too large, and the use of antipyretics should be under the guidance of a doctor.
