First aid for foreign bodies in children's trachea

First aid for foreign bodies in children's trachea

Children are naughty by nature, and when they are naughty, some accidents are inevitable. Many children will become very naughty when eating, and they are not well-behaved when eating. Some parents often feed their children with peanuts, melon seeds and other foods, which is likely to cause the child's trachea to be blocked. If the child's trachea is blocked, it is easy for the child to lose his life when he cannot breathe. So how to give first aid to children with foreign bodies in their trachea?

Heimlich maneuver

It is an emergency first aid method that uses the residual gas in the child's lungs to form an airflow to flush out foreign objects. The rescuer stands behind the child, hugs his abdomen from behind, wraps his arms around his waist and abdomen, makes a fist with one hand, and presses the palm of the fist inward on the area between the child's navel and ribs; covers the other hand on the fist, and presses inward and upward with both hands quickly and forcefully, repeatedly, until the obstruction is spit out.

Abdominal push

Let the child lie on his back on the table, and the rescuer puts one hand between the navel and xiphoid process of the abdomen, applying appropriate pressure upward close to the abdomen; the other hand is gently placed on the chest wall, applying appropriate pressure upward and into the chest cavity to increase the pressure in the abdominal and chest cavities. Repeating this several times can cause the foreign body to be coughed out.

Patting the back

In the standing position, the rescuer stands behind the child, places one arm on the child's chest to support the child, and uses the base of the other hand to give continuous, rapid and forceful taps on the spine in the interscapular area to facilitate the expulsion of foreign matter.

Handstand back pat

Suitable for infants and young children. Lift the person's legs upside down so that his head hangs down, and pat his back gently. This will force the foreign object to be coughed out through the gravity of the foreign object and the impact of the gas in the chest cavity during choking.

If the above methods are ineffective or the situation is urgent, the child should be sent to the hospital immediately, but be careful not to eat or drink before going to the hospital so that the doctor can perform surgery as soon as possible.

In order to prevent the occurrence of foreign bodies in the trachea of children, children should be prevented from crying, laughing, running and jumping while eating. They should chew their meals slowly. At the same time, do not give young children foods that are difficult to chew, such as fried beans, peanuts, and melon seeds. Do not force-feed children medicine, as these can easily cause the occurrence of foreign bodies in the trachea of children. Small items such as small buttons, thumbtacks, etc. should be avoided within the child's activity range.

If the child is still young, then you must not feed the child hard food. Give the child more soft food. Such food can prevent the child's trachea from being blocked by foreign objects. Do not keep hard and sharp objects at home. At the same time, if the child's trachea is blocked, you should also pay attention to what kind of foreign object is in the throat. If it is large, you should seek medical attention immediately.
