What causes congenital hypothyroidism in children?

At present, more and more children are suffering from congenital hypothyroidism. This disease has a great impact on the healthy development of children's body and brain. Many parents feel particularly confused. They are healthy in all aspects of their bodies and have no problems. But why do their children suffer from this disease? Many people are not clear about the real cause of the disease. So what causes congenital hypothyroidism in children?

Pathophysiology of the thyroid gland: At the 3rd week of pregnancy, the fetal thyroid gland begins to form the primitive thyroid tissue that is the protrusion of the foregut epithelial cells. At the 5th week of pregnancy, the thyroglossal duct atrophies and the thyroid gland moves downward from the pharynx. At the 7th week, the thyroid gland moves to its normal position in the anterior neck. From the 10th week of pregnancy, TSH can be measured in the fetal pituitary gland and TSH can be measured in the umbilical cord blood at 18 to 20 weeks of pregnancy.

The normal value of TSH in newborns changes day by day. Soon after birth, about 30 to 90 minutes, due to the stimulation of the cold environment, the TSH in the blood suddenly increases, and returns to normal after 3 to 4 days. Under the influence of TSH, T3 and T4 also increase within 24 to 48 hours after birth. Only by understanding the physiological changes in the concentrations of the above hormones can we correctly assess the thyroid function of the neonatal period.

The above is an introduction to what causes congenital hypothyroidism in children. If you find that your child's physical development is abnormal or has abnormal symptoms, you must send him to the hospital for treatment in time and actively receive relevant treatment. This will avoid missing the best treatment period and your child can develop and grow more healthily.
