The child has a high temperature for a long time

Children's bodies are in the development stage, so their resistance is limited, unlike adults who have stronger resistance. Some children will have high body temperature. There are many reasons for high body temperature. Some children have long-term high body temperature. Many parents don't know why their children have long-term high body temperature. What's going on with their children's long-term high body temperature? Let’s take a look at it next.

1. What’s the reason for a child’s long-term high body temperature?

Under normal circumstances, the body temperature at night is lower than the daytime level. If the child's body temperature is high at night or for a long time, exceeding 37.3 degrees, then it is considered that there is a fever, which is mainly caused by pathogen infection. It is recommended that you pay attention to keeping your child warm, add or remove clothes when appropriate, and check the body temperature regularly. If accompanied by fever, you should go to a regular hospital for a detailed examination to determine the cause and treat it accordingly.

2. Abuse of antipyretics

Medicines cure diseases, but they can also cause diseases. Especially in children who are in the development process, incorrect use of medicines may lead to serious consequences.

Fever is a necessary protective mechanism of the human body. Some young mothers believe that their children's fever can be cured by taking antipyretics. Therefore, they always give their children antipyretics. In fact, doing so can easily create false impressions, mask symptoms, and make the disease difficult to diagnose.

The body temperature of a healthy person is generally around 37°C, and anything above 37°C is considered a fever. The brain development of young children is not yet complete, and the function of the temperature regulation center is weak. Therefore, children will have a fever when they are sick, while other symptoms are not obvious, such as colds, measles, pneumonia, local infections, drug reactions, rheumatic fever, etc. Fever becomes a sign that the child is sick. Therefore, fever is an important sign for diagnosing disease. If you use antipyretics to suppress the fever as soon as it arises, it often masks the condition and makes diagnosis difficult. The disease may not be diagnosed until it is critical. In addition, some antipyretics, such as aspirin, affect the coagulation mechanism of children, leading to bleeding in the skin, lungs, brain and other organs; for example, phenacetin can convert low hemoglobin in the blood of newborns into high hemoglobin, reducing the ability of red blood cells to carry oxygen, leading to tissue hypoxia, and in severe cases can cause cerebral edema, convulsions, coma, etc. Therefore, giving antipyretics at every turn is not good for children's health.

3. When a child has a fever, the cause should be identified and then symptomatic or etiological treatment should be given.

If the child's body temperature does not exceed 38℃, there is generally no need to use antipyretics, and close observation during treatment is sufficient. Of course, if a child's body temperature is too high, such as reaching 39°C or above, it will seriously affect the child's health and may cause convulsions, seizures, etc. In this case, antipyretics can be used on the basis of active treatment, and physical cooling methods can be used at the same time, such as alcohol baths, ice packs to calm the head, etc.
