Can children use pillows when sleeping?

Every child is a treasure in the hearts of their parents, so parents want to give the best to their children. Children's sleep problems are one of the concerns of parents. If children sleep well, parents should not often get up in the middle of the night, which is also good for the parents' sleep. So do children really need pillows when they sleep? This is an issue that parents need to pay great attention to. Pillows make us sleep more comfortably, but if the child has trouble sleeping because of the pillow, it would not be worth it.

Normally, newborn babies do not need to use pillows when sleeping. The function of a pillow is to support the cervical vertebrae of our human body. The cervical vertebrae of an adult have a physiological curvature, so a pillow is needed to be comfortable. The cervical vertebrae and head of a newborn baby are on the same level, so the baby does not need a pillow when sleeping.

So when does the baby need a pillow?

The baby spits up milk. If your baby always spits up milk, you can find a clean cotton towel, fold it three times, and make it about two or three centimeters high. Place it behind the baby's head, because slightly raising the baby's head can reduce the number of times the baby spits up milk.

winter. For babies who are just born in winter, they will wear more clothes, and their heads will be obviously lower when they lie flat. In this case, you can find a smaller pillow to put under the baby's head. Be careful not to raise the cushion too high, otherwise the baby's cervical spine will bend, which can easily cause breathing difficulties for the baby.

The baby is over three months old. When the baby is three months old, the physiological curvature of the cervical spine begins to form, so a pillow about centimeters high can be used as a cushion when the baby sleeps. When the baby is four months old, the development of the baby's head slows down, the cervical curvature of the chest is formed, and the baby can start to sit up independently. At this time, you can give the baby a pillow of about three centimeters.

How to choose a pillow.

Height. The baby's pillow should be about three to four centimeters, but of course, the pillow can be adjusted accordingly as the baby grows. A pillow that is too high or too low will not affect the baby's growth and development, so when choosing a pillow for your baby, you should pay attention to the appropriate height. It is not advisable to choose one that is too high, otherwise it will cause the baby's cervical spine to deform and cause hunchback.

Length and width. The length of the pillow can be slightly larger than the width of the baby's shoulders, and the width should be about the same as the length of the head. You cannot use adult pillows for the baby. You should prepare a special pillow for the baby.

Pillowcase and pillow core. When choosing a pillowcase, it is best to choose one made of soft white cotton cloth, and the pillow core should be breathable, soft and moisture-absorbent. The choice of pillow core is also very particular, and you should choose some good materials as fillings. This is good for baby's sleep and can also prevent baby's head shape from deforming. Since babies sweat when they sleep, they need to be changed frequently.

Children's sleep problem is a big problem that parents cannot ignore. What kind of quilt material to use and whether to use a pillow are issues that parents need to pay attention to all the time. Therefore, parents should read more parenting books, which will contain many precautions that everyone needs to pay attention to.
