Favism diagnosis and treatment

Favism diagnosis and treatment

Favism can also cause more harm to babies, so mothers need to understand some effective methods to check for favism, so that they can find out in time whether the baby is affected by this disease, so as to actively treat it and reduce the harm caused by intestinal diseases. The following is a detailed introduction to the examination issues of favism.

The disease is inherited in an incompletely X-linked dominant manner. The G-6-PD gene is on the X chromosome. Most patients are male, with a male-to-female ratio of about 7:1. Within a few hours to a few days (1 to 3 days) after eating raw broad beans, they will suddenly develop fever, dizziness, irritability, nausea, and soy sauce-like or wine-colored urine. Generally, they will recover on their own after 2 to 6 days of onset, but severe cases may be life-threatening due to circulatory failure if not treated in time. Diagnosis is by history and methemoglobin reduction tests (reduction > 75%), particularly the fluorescent spot test.

Diagnostic features

1. Have a history of eating green broad beans or inhaling broad bean pollen.

Clinical features:

①The incubation period ranges from several hours to 48 hours.

②Symptoms of poisoning: In the early stage, there are chills, slight fever, dizziness, fatigue, lack of appetite, abdominal pain, followed by jaundice, anemia, hemoglobinuria, and soy sauce-colored urine. After that, the body temperature rises and the fatigue worsens, which can last for about 3 days.

③ Laboratory examination: methemoglobin reduction test (MHb) normal people's reduction rate> 75% (colorimetric method), favism patients' MHb reduction rate 31% ~ 74% (heterozygous inheritance), reduction rate

Because many diseases will directly affect the baby's health, we need to focus on scientific treatment and prevention so that we can achieve the best treatment effect. If any disease brings impact and harm to the baby, if you don’t know how to use medication to treat it, you can consult a doctor in time.
