What should I do if my child is prone to prickly heat?

Sweating is the main way for people to dissipate heat. However, when people are in a hot and humid environment, a lot of sweat cannot be eliminated and eventually accumulates in the body to form symptoms such as pustules, which is what people often call prickly heat. Among all groups of people, children are at high risk of prickly heat, especially in summer, which causes great trouble to many parents. Today I will tell you some common sense about prickly heat in children.

If prickly heat occurs on the head and neck, the child's hair should be cut short in the hot summer, or the hair should be combed back as much as possible, not leaving hair on the forehead. If it is a baby, it is better to shave the hair. Dress your baby in thin, soft, loose fabric clothes. The clothes should be as large as possible but comfortable. Loose clothes can help your baby cool down and prevent prickly heat, while minimizing friction and itching.

Take a bath with warm water, and adding a few drops of floral water will have a better effect. Rinse and dry your body, then sprinkle some powder on it to relieve itching. When bathing, avoid rubbing the areas with prickly heat to prevent skin abrasions and infection. Do not use soap when taking a bath to reduce irritation. If you must use it, choose a soap with less alkalinity.

Mild prickly heat can be gently rubbed with low-concentration medical alcohol. 25%-50% alcohol is easy to reduce fever physically (especially for patients with high fever, in addition to drug treatment, the simplest, most effective and safe cooling method is the physical cooling method of 25%-50% alcohol bathing). When using alcohol to scrub the patient's skin, it can not only stimulate the dilation of the skin blood vessels of patients with high fever and increase the skin's heat dissipation capacity; but also because of its volatility, it can absorb and take away a large amount of heat, thereby lowering body temperature and relieving symptoms. However, medical alcohol must be purchased from medical institutions, and industrial alcohol must not be misused.

It is very normal for children to have prickly heat, and parents do not need to worry too much. As long as you pay attention to keeping your baby's body clean and dry, and open windows for ventilation more often, you can generally prevent prickly heat. When a child gets prickly heat, parents must be careful not to scratch it and also stop the child from scratching it, otherwise it may cause other infections.
