Nursing methods for newborns with congenital heart disease

As parents, of course we hope that our children can grow up healthy and happy. However, some children suffer from congenital heart disease, which brings great burden and pain to their families. Congenital heart disease requires timely treatment, but many parents are probably not clear about the care of congenital heart disease. So, let’s talk about today what are the care methods for congenital heart disease in newborns?

Try to keep your child quiet, avoid excessive crying, and ensure adequate sleep. Older children should have a regular life, combining activity and rest. They should not run around outside (running, jumping and strenuous exercise are strictly prohibited), nor do they have to lie in bed all day. They must get enough sleep at night to reduce the burden on the heart.

Children with heart failure often sweat a lot, so they need to keep their skin clean, take frequent baths in the summer, wipe their bodies with hot towels in the winter (make sure to keep warm), and change their clothes frequently. Feed plenty of water to ensure adequate moisture.

Keep your bowel movements smooth. If your stool is dry or defecation is difficult, exerting excessive force will increase abdominal pressure, increase the burden on the heart, and even have serious consequences.

Keep the air circulating in the room, and the children should try to avoid staying in crowded public places to reduce the chance of respiratory infection. You should add or remove clothes as the weather changes, and pay close attention to preventing colds.

Go to the hospital's cardiology clinic for regular follow-up and take medication strictly as ordered by the doctor, especially cardiotonic and diuretic drugs. Due to their pharmacological properties, the dosage must be absolutely controlled and taken on time and according to the course of treatment to ensure efficacy. Before taking cardiotonic drugs each time, the pulse rate must be measured. If the heart rate is too slow, the drug should be stopped immediately to prevent drug toxicity and endangerment of the child's life.

Through the introduction above, I believe you already know the care methods for newborn congenital heart disease! When you find out that your child has congenital heart disease, don't be discouraged. Actively cooperate with the doctor's treatment and take good care of your child to prevent the child from having an attack of the disease due to emotional fluctuations. Parents must be careful and take good care of their children.
