What are the birthmarks on children?

After some babies are born, parents will find that their babies have birthmarks of various colors and strange shapes, which inevitably makes parents feel a little uneasy. There are many sayings in life that some birthmarks can cause glaucoma, cataracts, and even meningioma, which makes many people feel scared. Are birthmarks really that scary? Below I will introduce some symptoms of birthmarks and how to solve them.

After a newborn is born, some spots or papules that are different from the skin color may appear on the skin or mucous membranes. These are called birthmarks. They mostly occur on the baby's waist, buttocks, chest, back and limbs, and are generally blue or blue-gray patches. The incidence of birthmarks in newborns is about 10%, most of which only affect the appearance and do not require special treatment.

There are 6 common birthmarks

1. Port wine stain. About 1/3 of newborns will have this birthmark. Most will disappear as children grow older. Treatment is usually not required.

2. Mongolian spots. This birthmark looks like a bruise and is common among Asian people. It usually disappears before school age. No treatment is usually required.

3. Strawberry hemangioma. It usually forms a few weeks after birth and, although it will not disappear, it has no impact on health. Treatment is usually not required.

4. Cavernous hemangioma. It's like a light blue spongy tissue filled with blood. It disappears before puberty. Treatment is usually not required.

5. Coffee stains. It generally does not cause health problems. However, if several birthmarks larger than a coin appear at the same time, it may be related to neurofibroma.

6. Congenital pigmented nevus. These moles may develop into skin cancer and should be treated if they are large in size.

The above are some of the more common birthmarks on babies. Some birthmarks will not become malignant and will not have a great impact on the body. The main psychological impact is dominant. The editor would also like to remind everyone that some diseases are very similar to birthmarks, and parents must discover them in time. For example, hemangioma is like a common red birthmark. This disease is very serious and requires timely treatment.
