What is the cause of white spots on children's fingers?

Babies are the apple of their parents' eyes, and any slight discomfort will attract the attention of their parents. Everyone knows that having smooth and shiny curved nails on each finger means that the baby is in good health. However, some babies have small white dots on their fingers, which makes parents nervous. Is there something wrong with their baby's physical condition?

First of all, we need to know what the white spots on the nails are. White spots are called "leukonychia", which are divided into four types: dot-shaped leukonychia, linear leukonychia, partial leukonychia and complete leukonychia. The small white spots on the nails are a type of leukonychia, the main feature of which is the appearance of one or several white spots of varying sizes, or white cloud-like or white floc-like spots on the nail plate (nail shell).

There are three main reasons why white spots may appear on baby's fingers:

1. The skin around the nails, including the nail bed (the part where the nails grow), suffers some minor damage.

2. Poor spleen, stomach and digestive system, resulting in deficiency of some trace elements or vitamins. White spots or mica-like spots on the nails indicate a lack of trace elements such as calcium and silicon, and the presence of parasites. Such people are prone to nervousness, irritability, and habitual constipation. These phenomena often occur in children aged 8-12 years old, but can also occur in adults.

3. Some fungal infections, ascariasis, syphilis and other diseases may also cause leukonychia.

Therefore, parents can check their baby's fingernails based on the above symptoms and observe carefully, which can help them see whether the baby's current physical condition is healthy. If there are white spots or floc-like white spots on the nails, don't be too nervous. Just give your baby timely nutritional supplements and pay attention to diet and rest. If there are particularly obvious phenomena, if there is damage, and if the white spots on the nails have not disappeared, you need to go to the hospital for examination in time.
