What should I do if my child has an acute asthma attack?

From the day a child is born, he or she becomes the apple of the parents' eyes. Even if the child cries, it hurts the parents' hearts. However, during the growth of babies, it is inevitable that they will suffer from diseases. Today, the editor has collected some information for you on what we as parents should do when children have an acute asthma attack. This way, as a first-time parent, you won't be overwhelmed when you encounter this situation.

When an asthma attack occurs at home, parents should do the following:

(1) Quickly remove the child from the allergen. Once removed from the allergic environment, the condition can be alleviated even without any medication.

(2) Parents should comfort their children to relieve their psychological stress. When asthma attacks, children often feel fear and irritability, and these mental stimuli can also trigger attacks and worsen symptoms.

(3) Promptly administer valproate or salbutamol aerosol for inhalation to quickly relieve bronchospasm and have an anti-asthmatic effect. At the same time, aminophylline 4-6 mg/kg/time, 3 times a day, or dexamethasone 2.5-5 mg/time, intramuscular injection can be given.

(4) Acupuncture points such as Tiantu, Dingchuan, Hegu, and Quchi should be inserted into the needles, leaving them in place for 10 to 15 minutes and twisting them occasionally to enhance the effect. If the parents do not know how to do acupuncture, they can press the child's Dazhui point with the thumb and index finger and rub it continuously; or press the Hegu points on both hands until the child feels soreness and swelling, which also has a certain effect on relieving asthma.

(5) If cyanosis appears around the lips, it indicates hypoxia. You can connect a spare oxygen bag at home to a nasal cannula to breathe oxygen and adjust the oxygen concentration to 25% to 40%.

(6) If an asthma attack is severe or persistent, the patient must be sent to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible.

The above is the information that the editor has collected for you on how to quickly and effectively relieve the condition when children have an acute asthma attack. When a child has an acute asthma attack, if we do not have time to send him to the hospital, we can only provide timely treatment at home and then send him to the hospital immediately after his condition stabilizes. If there is a child with asthma at home, you should have some medicines such as salbutamol or ventolin, oxygen bags, etc. at home just in case.
