Why does my baby's legs suddenly shake when he falls asleep?

Babies sleep for a long time and are easily awakened during sleep. There are many reasons why babies wake up suddenly, with shaking of body parts being the most common. This has a great impact on babies, and most of this shaking is abnormal and requires diagnosis and treatment. When a baby shakes while sleeping, it usually mainly occurs in the thighs. Let’s take a look at what happens when a baby’s legs suddenly shake while sleeping?

Confirm the child’s condition through the amplitude of shaking and provide symptomatic treatment! Newborn babies will have some special physiological phenomena. They may look weak and powerless, and sometimes shiver all over. These are all natural because the baby's development is not yet complete and needs to continue to adapt and develop. Why do babies' legs tremble? Let’s analyze the reasons together.

When the baby is in the mother's womb, it is contained in the amniotic fluid, the temperature of which is generally 38-39 degrees, slightly higher than the body temperature. The baby has lived in this constant temperature environment for 40 weeks. After being delivered from the mother's body, it is brought to an outside environment of about 28 degrees. The temperature difference is large and it is difficult for it to adapt all of a sudden, so it naturally shivers from the cold.

The baby's brain is not fully developed yet. When the nerve center that controls movement has not yet functioned, the baby will have some involuntary and purposeless shaking. After a period of time, the brain will mature and the shaking will naturally disappear.

If the baby's muscle tone is too high, the muscles are tight, and the ability to control the limbs is stiff, the baby will experience unnatural shaking. Some babies are found to have this kind of condition during physical examinations, but the phenomenon disappears when they are over one year old. If the condition is serious, follow the doctor's advice to do massage and actively treat it.

If the baby lacks calcium, he may also have problems with trembling legs. It is recommended that infants supplement vitamin D after 15 days and, if possible, get more sun exposure to promote calcium absorption. Breastfeeding mothers can eat more foods high in calcium, which is also beneficial for calcium supplementation in babies.

In short, generally speaking, it is normal for newborn babies to have trembling legs, so don't worry too much.
