Can a four-month-old baby use air conditioning?

As we all know, the weather is usually hot in summer, and it is usually impossible to stay outdoors, especially for children. Once the indoor temperature is too high, it will affect the baby's sleep. Some babies will feel bored, which is very detrimental to the baby's growth and development. However, if the air conditioner is turned on, there is a fear that it will cause the baby to catch a cold. The temperature is particularly difficult to control. Can a four-month-old baby use the air conditioner?

Can a four-month-old baby use air conditioning?

When the temperature is too high, you can turn on the air conditioner for your baby, but don't let your baby rely too much on the air conditioner, because this will reduce the child's body temperature regulation function and worsen his ability to adapt to the environment. Parents must strike a good balance, otherwise their children may become ill.

1. The temperature is too low, and the baby is prone to colds and diarrhea

If the air conditioner temperature is set very low, there will be a big temperature difference with the outside temperature, and the temperature will fluctuate between hot and cold, which can easily cause the baby to catch a cold or have diarrhea.

2. Babies are prone to "air conditioning disease"

Air-conditioning disease is a comprehensive term for diseases. If the air conditioner is often turned on at home and the baby has the following symptoms, parents should pay attention.

Fatigue, tension, irritability, difficulty concentrating, memory loss; headache, dizziness, cold, fever; sore throat, gastrointestinal discomfort; dry skin, dry mucous membranes, respiratory allergies; varying degrees of numbness in the hands and feet.

3. Babies who use air conditioning for a long time are more likely to get pneumonia

Because babies have less subcutaneous fat, more capillaries, and their body temperature regulation center is not yet fully developed, young children can clearly feel the temperature difference that adults cannot feel. In the cold air environment of an air-conditioned room, children's capillaries contract, sweat gland pores close, sympathetic nerves become excited, visceral blood vessels contract, gastrointestinal motility weakens, and resistance decreases. In addition, various bacteria and molds grow and multiply in the air conditioner and the air is polluted, so they are very likely to get pneumonia.

The best temperature for baby to use air conditioner

There are also some requirements for the air-conditioning temperature for babies. We adults can withstand lower air-conditioning temperatures, but for babies, the temperature cannot be too low. The suitable temperature for babies to use air conditioning should be between 27℃ and 28℃, and the temperature difference with the outdoor temperature should be 3-5℃. The general recommendation is 25℃-28℃, and 27℃-28℃ is best.

As for what temperature is appropriate, experts say that when the outside temperature is higher than 35℃ or the indoor temperature exceeds 28℃-30℃, the baby will feel uncomfortable. At this time, it is necessary to turn on the air conditioner to cool down. The temperature is generally controlled at 25℃-28℃, which is 3-5℃ lower than the outdoor temperature. If parents observe that the baby is still sweating, they can continue to adjust until they find a temperature that is comfortable for the baby.

In addition, since the baby's body temperature regulation center and sweat glands are not fully developed, the ability to regulate temperature differences is not yet fully developed, so temperature regulation requires a gradual adaptation process. You can turn off the air conditioner one hour before your baby wakes up, so that the indoor temperature will gradually match the outdoor temperature. When your baby wakes up, the temperature difference will not be that big.
