Baby sleeps all day

Baby sleeps all day

After a baby is born, he usually eats and sleeps, and basically sleeps all day long. When this happens, many parents worry that there is something wrong with the baby's health. In fact, for a newborn baby, a good sleep is very important for the baby's growth. However, as the baby grows older, the daytime sleep time will become shorter and shorter. If the baby still sleeps all day long when he grows up, parents need to pay attention.

Why does my baby sleep all day?

There are obvious differences in the length of sleep each day for babies of different ages.

1. Babies from birth to 2 months old

No matter day or night, the baby usually sleeps for two to four hours. It is longer at night. He wakes up to feed and then falls asleep again. However, he may play for a while after waking up during the day. The sleep duration in a day and night is about 18 to 20 hours. Therefore, babies in confinement spend most of their time sleeping except for feeding.

2. Babies aged 2 to 4 months

After two months, the baby was awake more often during the day and most of his sleep was at night, but he still slept about three times during the day. The sleep time for a day and night is about 16 to 18 hours.

3. Babies aged 4 to 6 months

Babies in this period sleep an average of about 15 to 16 hours a day, and sleep two to three times during the day, each time for about two hours.

4. Babies from 6 to 9 months old

For babies of this age group, the average sleep time per day is about 12 to 14 hours. Some only take a nap during the day, while others need to take a nap in the morning and afternoon. Moreover, after half a year old, you can consider letting your baby sleep through the night, so those who have the habit of feeding at night can consider giving it up.

5. Babies aged 9 to 12 months

At this time, the baby's average sleep time is about 10 to 12 hours per night. Some babies only sleep during the day, while some babies may not sleep at all, falling asleep early at night and waking up late in the morning.

In fact, the development of each baby is different. Some may sleep more and some may sleep less, but as long as the child is in good spirits, energetic and in a good mood, it is normal and parents do not need to worry too much.
