Understanding peeling of the palms of newborn babies

What parents fear most is that the baby may have health risks, especially those who are new parents. They are worried about how to treat the baby after the baby is born, and they get anxious and angry if there is anything abnormal about the baby. Take a newborn baby as an example. This is a normal transitional reaction for a newborn baby, and shedding does not require special care. However, some peeling phenomena are caused by certain diseases, such as ichthyosis, seborrheic dermatitis, eczema, neonatal lupus erythematosus, etc. Next, let's understand why the palms of newborns peel

Neonatal peeling factors:

1 Reason: The basement membrane of newborns is not well developed, tender and soft, which makes the connection between the epidermis and dermis not tight enough, and the chance of epidermis shedding is greater.

2 Reasons: Newborns are in warm amniotic fluid before birth. After birth, they are stimulated by the cold and dry air, which causes their skin to shrink and become more prone to peeling.

3 Reasons: The tissue between the epidermis and dermis of the newborn is not tight enough, and peeling may occur in the wrinkles of the wrists, ankles, palms, and trunk. This is more obvious in post-term newborns with placental insufficiency.

Nursing and prevention: Parents only need to pay attention to the cleaning and care of the newborn's skin, be gentle and soft, and avoid external infection and injury. There is no need to panic about this. It is very helpful to know more about parenting knowledge.

Recommendation: When choosing skin care products, it is recommended to avoid those with strong fragrances and bright colors, because the main culprit of allergies caused by skin care products is the pigments, flavors, etc. added therein. If the parents have allergies, they should be more cautious when choosing cosmetics for their baby. They can first try it on a small area of the baby's skin for a few days, and then use it on a large area after no allergic symptoms occur. Alternatively, they can choose cosmeceuticals or moisturizing skin care products specifically for sensitive skin.

So don't worry too much. Newborn peeling is a common phenomenon. You can apply some lubricating oil on the skin to keep it moist. This is because if the baby's skin is dry, small cracks will appear on the skin after peeling, and there is a possibility of infection. It is best not to tear off the baby's peeling, wait for it to fall off naturally. If the peeling is accompanied by other symptoms such as redness, swelling or blisters, it may be a symptom of disease and requires medical treatment.
