How to determine normal blood sugar levels in children?

It is still necessary to keep abreast of the child's health status at all times. This is a critical period of development and any health risks must not occur. Many children have low blood sugar, the main symptom is dizziness. Of course, high blood sugar is not uncommon, and we need to take it seriously. So how do we determine the normal blood sugar value for children?

Generally speaking, the normal blood sugar value for children can refer to that of adults. The sugar in the blood is called blood sugar, and in most cases it is glucose. Most of the energy required for the activities of various tissues and cells in the body comes from glucose, so blood sugar must be maintained at a certain level to meet the needs of various organs and tissues in the body.

The normal fasting blood sugar concentration in the morning is 80-120 mg%. A fasting blood sugar concentration exceeding 130 mg% is called hyperglycemia. If the blood sugar concentration exceeds 160-180 mg%, some glucose will be excreted in the urine, which is called diabetes. A blood sugar concentration below 70 mg% is called hypoglycemia.

The normal value of fasting blood glucose is: generally fasting whole blood glucose is 3.9-6.1 mmol/L (70-110 mg/dL), and plasma blood glucose is 3.9-6.9 mmol/L (70-125 mg/dL). Fasting whole blood glucose ≥6.7 mmol/L (120 mg/dL) and plasma glucose ≥7.8 mmol/L (140 mg/dL) repeated twice can be diagnosed as diabetes.

When the fasting whole blood glucose is above 5.6 mmol/L (100 mg/dL) and the plasma glucose is above 6.4 mmol/L (115 mg/dL), a glucose tolerance test should be done. When fasting whole blood glucose exceeds 11.1 mmol/L (200 mg/dL), it means that insulin secretion is very low or absent. Therefore, when fasting blood sugar is significantly elevated, diabetes can be diagnosed without the need for other tests.

The normal value of postprandial blood sugar is: 1 hour after meal: blood sugar 6.7-9.4 mmol/L. The maximum value does not exceed 11.1mmol/L (200mg/dl). 2 hours after meal: blood sugar ≤7.8 mmol/L. 3 hours after meal: Return to normal after the third hour, and each urine sugar is negative

After correctly judging the normal blood sugar value for children, you can take your child to the hospital for examination. You can also analyze the specific blood sugar condition based on the child's specific examination results. If it is too high, you must find a way to control it. However, generally speaking, high blood sugar in children is not very common. If blood sugar is low, iron supplements are needed and anemia must not occur.
