Why does a one-month-old baby fart smell bad?

What worries people the most now is the newborn babies. Parents take good care of their children because they are so young, fearing that something unexpected might happen. Moreover, since many parents are young and have no experience in raising children, they are even more overwhelmed. When it comes to why a one-month-old baby farts smell bad, many new parents probably don’t know much about it. Let’s learn together why a one-month-old baby’s farts smell bad.

My baby, who is just a dozen days old, has been breastfed. For some reason, he farts a lot and the sound is very loud. Sometimes he brings out a little feces, and his stomach often makes gurgling sounds. Why is this? How can I prevent and treat it? Breastfed newborns like to fart a lot, and the sound is particularly loud. You can often hear gurgling sounds in the baby's stomach. He has to work hard to defecate, and sometimes he cries for no reason. Many new mothers have questions, is this normal?

It is a common phenomenon for babies to fart, which is related to the fact that the baby's gastrointestinal tract has not yet matured. Imperfect gastrointestinal function can cause uncoordinated intestinal motility in the baby, thus causing bloating. Parents will hear the baby's stomach rumbling and farting frequently, and some may even cause unexplained crying. This phenomenon is what we often call infant colic. What is the specific definition of infantile colic? It refers to a healthy baby who cries for at least 3 hours a day for no apparent reason, at least 3 days a week, and lasts for more than 3 weeks. Most newborn babies begin to experience colic 2 weeks after birth and gradually improve after 4 months.

Why do newborn babies always fart?

1. Another possibility is that the baby wants to defecate, then farting is also a signal of the baby's defecation. There is a good saying: wind is at the head of rain, fart is at the head of shit, which means that people will inevitably fart before defecation. Based on this point, new mothers can touch the baby in time to let the baby defecate, so there is no need to worry about washing an extra diaper or wasting a diaper.

2. Swallowing excessive air: The baby's digestive system is not yet fully developed, and the stomach is small and flat. When a large amount of air passes through the intestines, the baby will feel very uncomfortable. If there is a lot of gas, the mother should let the baby burp. The baby should be allowed to burp to exhaust gas before and during each feeding. When feeding, hold the baby in a semi-sitting position in your arms, let the baby hold the nipple and areola in his mouth, and the milk flow should not be too strong or intermittent. The hole in the rubber nipple should not be too large or too small, and do not suck the artificial nipple empty.

3. Stimulating ingredients in the mother's diet: Breastfeeding mothers should not eat large amounts of fruits, juice, coffee, yeast, certain fish, peanuts, peanut butter, and some gas-producing vegetables such as beans, cabbage, and onions.

4. Excessive milk syndrome: Characterized by crying, frequent farts, and abdominal cramps when sucking milk. The reason is that when babies consume a lot of foremilk and less hindmilk containing fatty acids, their stomachs empty quickly and excess lactose is discharged into the intestines, which leads to increased intestinal fermentation and colic symptoms. Babies should only be fed on one side at a time, and then wait 1.5-2 hours before feeding on the other side.

I believe that many parents now know why their one-month-old babies fart smelly. Don’t worry too much. Newborns will have some minor physical problems. If you are very worried, go to the hospital for a check-up, or you can consult your parents, because they have experienced it after all. Generally speaking, if you pay attention to your diet, there will be no problem.
