What is the normal blood sugar level for children?

Families should still pay more attention to their children's healthy development, especially their blood sugar. During the developmental period, blood sugar is generally not high, but it is very likely to be low due to malnutrition. At this time, conditioning and maintenance measures need to be taken as soon as possible. So what is the normal blood sugar value for children? In general, children's blood sugar values can be referred to those of adults.

The sugar in the blood is called blood sugar, and in most cases it is glucose. Most of the energy required for the activities of various tissues and cells in the body comes from glucose, so blood sugar must be maintained at a certain level to meet the needs of various organs and tissues in the body. The normal fasting blood sugar concentration in the morning is 80-120 mg%. A fasting blood sugar concentration exceeding 130 mg% is called hyperglycemia. If the blood sugar concentration exceeds 160-180 mg%, some glucose will be excreted in the urine, which is called diabetes. A blood sugar concentration below 70 mg% is called hypoglycemia.

Normal fasting blood glucose (FBG)

①: Generally, the fasting whole blood glucose level is 3.9-6.1 mmol/L (70-110 mg/dL), and the plasma glucose level is 3.9-6.9 mmol/L (70-125 mg/dL).

②: Fasting whole blood glucose ≥6.7 mmol/L (120 mg/dL), plasma glucose ≥7.8 mmol/L (140 mg/dL), repeated measurements twice can be diagnosed as diabetes.

③: When the fasting whole blood glucose level is above 5.6 mmol/L (100 mg/dL) and the plasma glucose level is above 6.4 mmol/L (115 mg/dL), a glucose tolerance test should be performed.

④ When fasting whole blood glucose exceeds 11.1 mmol/L (200 mg/dL), it means that insulin secretion is very little or lacking. Therefore, when fasting blood sugar is significantly elevated, diabetes can be diagnosed without the need for other tests.

Normal blood sugar level after meal

① 1 hour after meal: blood sugar 6.7-9.4 mmol/L. The maximum value is no more than 11.1mmol/L (200mg/dl)

② 2 hours after meal: blood sugar ≤7.8 mmol/L.

③3 hours after meal: Return to normal after the third hour, and all urine sugar levels are negative

Through the general introduction to the normal blood sugar values for children in the above text, family members also know how to judge whether the child’s blood sugar is too high or too low. Children are in the golden period of development. At this time, they must ensure adequate nutrition and vitamins, a reasonable diet, proper exercise, and a regular schedule to ensure their own health and normal development.
