Mumps is a common disease that occurs when the parotid lymph nodes become swollen and inflamed. It often occurs during adolescence. Mumps seriously affects normal life and also affects appearance. What’s more harmful is that mumps is contagious. If you have too much contact with patients, you may also get mumps. The chance of normal contact triggering is very small. So how to prevent mumps and what are the symptoms of mumps? Symptoms of mumps 1. History of contact with mumps 2-3 weeks before onset of illness. 2 In the early stages, there may be symptoms such as fever, fatigue, muscle pain, loss of appetite, headache, vomiting, and sore throat, but in most children the symptoms are not severe or obvious. 3. Parotid gland swelling occurs 1-2 days after onset, usually on one side first, followed by swelling on the other side 1-2 days later. Parotid swelling is centered on the earlobe. It spreads to the surrounding area, the edges are unclear, the local skin is not red, the surface is burning, and it feels elastic and painful. Redness and swelling may be seen at the opening of the parotid duct. The child feels local pain and hyperesthesia, which is more obvious when opening the mouth and chewing. Some children have swelling of the submandibular and sublingual glands. It is accompanied by moderate fever and a few cases have high fever. Parotid gland swelling usually reaches its peak within 1 to 3 days, lasts for 4 to 5 days, gradually subsides and returns to normal. The entire course of the disease is about 10 to 14 days. The usual measures are as follows: 1. Mumps is a vaccine-preventable disease. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent mumps. Children should complete vaccinations on time, one shot at 1.5 years old and one shot at 6 years old. Children under 15 years old can be vaccinated. Currently, there are measles-mumps vaccine and measles-rubella vaccine; 2. During the epidemic of respiratory diseases, try to avoid going to crowded public places; when going out, you should wear a mask, especially on the bus. Now that you know the symptoms and causes of mumps, it's time to take steps to prevent it. During the mumps outbreak, patients need to drink plenty of water, get some sun exposure outdoors, and ventilate the room regularly to keep the air flowing. It is necessary to arrange the child's diet scientifically and reasonably, and eat more nutritious and easily digestible food. |
