How to treat fever and chills in children?

Young children are more vulnerable to illness because their immune systems are not yet fully developed. Cold and fever is a very common disease. When a young child has a fever and is afraid of the cold, parents should not only follow the doctor's advice for treatment, but also know some knowledge about this aspect in case of emergency. So, how should we treat children with fever and chills?

1. Keep the environment quiet, comfortable and humid, ventilate the room regularly, and adults should not smoke.

2. Fever is the body's protective response against the invasion of foreign microorganisms, which is beneficial to enhancing the body's resistance. Therefore, there is no need to take antipyretics if the body temperature is below 38.5°C. Antipyretic measures are only needed if the body temperature exceeds 38.5°C.

3. The sick child should not wear too many clothes, the quilt should not be too thick, and the child should not be "sweat-covered" to avoid affecting heat dissipation and causing the body temperature to rise higher.

4. Encourage children to drink more water and eat more fruits. After having a fever, the child's appetite decreases. You can prepare some delicious and easy-to-digest meals and choose the time when the child's temperature is not high or when he or she has taken medicine to reduce the fever to eat, but do not let the child eat too much.

5. Keep bowel movements smooth.

Three emergency measures for baby's fever

First, wear less clothes to allow your child to dissipate heat. The traditional idea is that when a child has a fever, he or she should be wrapped tightly with clothes and quilts to "force" the sweat out. In fact, this is wrong. When children have a fever, they will shiver and parents may think that their children have chills, but in fact, this is because their increased body temperature causes convulsions.

Second, help your child cool down physically. There are the following common methods:

1. Cold wet compress on the head: Soak a soft towel in 20℃-30℃ cold water, squeeze it slightly to prevent dripping, fold it and place it on the forehead, change it every 3-5 minutes.

2. Head ice pillow: Fill the ice bag half full with small ice cubes and a small amount of water, expel the air from the bag, press the bag opening tightly, and place it on the pillow after there is no water leakage.

3. Wipe with warm water or take a warm bath: Wipe the child's head, armpits, limbs with a warm, wet towel or take a warm bath, scrub the skin more to promote heat dissipation.

How should we treat young children who have a fever and are afraid of cold? I believe everyone should have some understanding after reading the editor’s sharing. Young children have relatively poor physical fitness and weak resistance. Therefore, parents should pay more attention to their baby's condition. If they feel unwell, they should seek timely treatment. Also, do not give children medicine blindly, but take medicine as prescribed by the doctor.
