The dangers of heat stroke in pregnant women

Pregnant women who suffer from heatstroke may experience mild symptoms such as dizziness, chest tightness, sweating, and nausea, or severe symptoms such as high fever, coma, and convulsions. This not only seriously affects the health of the pregnant mother, but can sometimes even be devastating to the fetus. First of all, abnormal maternal temperature regulation will have a certain impact on the fetus. For mothers who are pregnant early, it can cause fetal malformation or developmental abnormalities. Secondly, when the mother suffers from peripheral blood circulation disorders and convulsions due to heatstroke, it will inevitably affect the nutrient and gas exchange between the uterus and placental villi, resulting in insufficient blood supply and hypoxia for the fetus. In severe cases, it will inevitably lead to intrauterine distress of the fetus in late pregnancy, intrauterine fetal death, stillbirth, premature birth, etc.

Is there any way to prevent heat stroke in pregnant women?

How to prevent heat stroke in pregnant women

Pay attention to personal hygiene and wash frequently with warm water: if you bathe with cold water, skin dirt is not easy to remove, and pregnant women are prone to colds; if you bathe with hot water, the high temperature will damage the developing central nervous system of the fetus and cause fetal malformations.

Wear cool and loose clothing

Pregnant women are advised to choose silk or cotton fabrics for close-fitting clothes. Clothes should be loose, and bras and belts should not be too tight.

Proper diet

In order to ensure the nutrition of the mother and fetus, pregnant women should maintain their appetite in summer and eat more fresh vegetables, such as cucumbers, tomatoes, lentils, winter melon, etc.; eat more fresh soy products, and often eat soups made of shredded chicken, shredded pork, egg drops, seaweed, and mushrooms; at the same time, change the variety of dishes frequently. In addition, be careful to eat less greasy food. If there is no obvious swelling in the lower limbs during pregnancy, you can drink some salty drinks to replenish the salt lost through sweating.

Don't be greedy for coolness

Pregnant women should not stay in a room with sufficient air conditioning for too long when walking from a hot environment to prevent their abdomen from getting cold. It is best not to sit in the wind when enjoying the cool air, do not sleep in the open air, and do not lie on a straw mat on the concrete floor. When using a fan, do not blow it directly, the wind speed should be moderate or the fan should be set to shake its head. In addition, it is not advisable to eat too much cold drinks.

Get enough sleep

When it is hot, people consume more physical energy. Pregnant women often do not get enough rest at night due to mosquito bites and other factors. They are more likely to feel tired. Therefore, they should take a nap for a certain period of time and pay attention to rest during work.

Happy and relaxed mood

Hot weather can make people feel irritable and restless, and these emotions can also interfere with the growth environment of the fetus in the uterus. On the contrary, an open mind can alleviate the adverse stimulation of the heat and is conducive to a stable and peaceful growth environment for the fetus.

Pregnant women should pay more attention to the above points in summer to prevent heatstroke.
