Symptoms of rickets in children

Symptoms of rickets in children

Many parents are concerned about the problem of rickets in children, because it will directly affect the baby's future healthy growth and development. Therefore, when facing baby rickets, it must not be easily ignored, and must be actively treated. Below we need to understand in detail some of the symptoms of rickets in children. Only in this way can we find out whether the child has this abnormal phenomenon in time?

In daily life, parents should pay more attention to their children. Only in this way can you discover whether the baby has some abnormal phenomena during a growth stage, so that you can help them in time to solve them and ensure that they can grow up healthy and happy.

Rickets in infants often initially manifests as mental and neurological symptoms, such as irritability, easy awakening at night and sweating, and sweating more when feeding and crying, sometimes even the pillow will be soaked; then there will be lesions in bone development, such as the head feeling as elastic as a ping-pong ball when pressed, square head, large and slow-closing anterior fontanelle, sparse hair on the back of the head, and tooth eruption, sitting, and walking are also later than normal babies; the chest bones may appear as rib beads, with a certain part of each rib bulging and thick, like beads when touched vertically, rib eversion and pigeon chest; if the child sits or stands for a long time during the active period of rickets, it may also cause spinal curvature and O-shaped or X-shaped legs in the lower limbs; the upper limbs manifest as "bracelet-shaped" with rounded and blunt hypertrophy at the distal ends of the ulna and radius at the wrist.

The main cause of vitamin D deficiency is insufficient intake. The amount of vitamin D contained in the diet of infants (2 months to 1 year old) is very small, usually not exceeding 100 international units per day. At this time, the child's daily vitamin D requirement is 400 international units, and the difference between the two is obvious.

But children who grow up in the hot southern regions rarely suffer from rickets. This is because the body can synthesize vitamin D on its own, and the ultraviolet rays in sunlight are an important condition for synthesizing vitamin D in the body. Generally, if you spend about 2 hours of outdoor activities every day, your body can get enough vitamin D through conversion.

Therefore, the prevention of rickets mainly relies on sun exposure and additional vitamin D supplementation, such as taking cod liver oil or icosin.

Baldness on the back of the head is very common among babies. It may be due to calcium deficiency, or it may not be. Because babies sleep on their backs for a long time and cannot turn over, the hair on the back of their heads is not easy to grow. Therefore, if the baby has baldness on the back of the head, the mother does not need to worry too much. She can take Icocin, get more sun exposure and take appropriate calcium supplements. Basically, the baby's hair will grow out when he is seven or eight months old.

The above is an introduction to some symptoms of rickets in children. I hope that after these introductions, parents can pay more attention to them in their lives. When they find that their children have these abnormal symptoms, they can pay attention to them and help their children solve and treat this problem in time.
