Children's skin is very delicate, usually smooth and white. Of course, some children have small bumps on their skin, which we commonly call goose bumps. Goose bumps are a very common skin problem. The scientific name is keratosis pilaris. It has certain genetic causes. When this happens, be sure not to touch the small bumps to avoid infection. What is keratosis pilaris Follicular keratosis pilaris is a rare hereditary disease with dyskeratosis of epidermal cells as the basic pathological change, also known as pseudodyskeratosis follicularis. It was first named by Darier in 1889, so it is also called Darier disease. This disease is a rare, chronic keratotic skin disease with dyskeratosis of epidermal cells as the basic pathological change. Because the skin lesions tend to fuse and proliferate, it was once called proliferative follicular keratosis pilaris and proliferative follicular dyskeratosis. Keratosis pilaris refers to an autosomal dominant inheritance disorder characterized by abnormal keratinization. Some people believe that vitamin A metabolism disorders and sunlight exposure are important pathogenic factors. Symptoms of Keratosis Pilaris Keratosis pilaris is a very common skin problem. It is a dominant genetic disorder of keratinization metabolism. There is a 50% chance that it will be passed on to the next generation. Symptoms usually become obvious during puberty, commonly seen between the ages of 20 and 30, and become less and less obvious by the age of 30 or 40. Generally, there will be no sequelae. 1. Its incidence rate is as high as 40% to 50%. It mainly occurs on the outer side of the upper arm and the extensor side of the thigh. In severe cases, it may even occur on the outer side of the elbow and the extensor side of the calf. It looks like there is keratin accumulation at the opening of the hair follicle. In severe cases, there may be redness or swelling around the follicle, which may make people mistakenly think that they have many blackheads and inflamed pimples on their arms or thighs. However, if you squeeze it forcefully, it will cause red spots. 2. If the pores are slightly red and even feel raised to the touch, this is keratosis pilaris. In more serious cases, the pores will be darker in color, appearing dark red or brown, and the particles will be rougher, looking like goose bumps. 3. Follicular keratosis is a physical condition caused by congenital genes. People with this physique will have thickened keratin around the hair follicles, causing the follicle openings to be blocked by the excessive keratin, resulting in small bumps. Some patients with atopic dermatitis and ichthyosis often also suffer from keratosis pilaris. 4. The symptoms will be more severe in winter because it is related to keratinization of hair follicles and thickening of cuticles. Therefore, when the climate is drier and colder, the thickening of cuticles will be aggravated, making the symptoms more obvious. 5. The condition worsens in summer and patients are sensitive to heat. Typical sites are areas of sebum secretion, such as the face, forehead, scalp, chest and back, where small, firm, normal-skinned papules appear. Gradually, greasy, gray-brown, and black scabs cover the concave surface of the top of the papules. The papules gradually increase in size and become wart-like and merge to form irregular plaques. The proliferation of lesions caused by sweating and friction in the flexor axilla, gluteal groove and pubic region is particularly obvious, forming papilloma-like and proliferative lesions with a foul odor, covered with cracks, maceration and purulent exudate. This disease may cause palmoplantar keratosis, excessive subungual keratosis of the nails, brittle and fragmented nails, etc. In addition, the oropharyngeal, esophageal, laryngeal, and anorectal mucosa may be affected. |
