What should I do if my baby’s foreskin is too long?

Some mothers wrote to us and said that their baby is already 3 months old, and the baby’s foreskin is too long. During the physical examination, the doctor said that they have to wait until the baby is 4 months old to have the surgery. During this period, you have to take the baby to the hospital for a physical examination, because we know the harm of long foreskin. In order to prevent the baby from having foreskin that is too long in the future, we plan to perform circumcision surgery on the baby. So, when is the best season to have the surgery?

Phimosis refers to the foreskin covering the urethral opening, but can be turned up to expose the urethral opening and the glans penis, often accompanied by phimosis. This disease is related to genetics and can be divided into true phimosis and false phimosis. Patients with prepuce that is too long should undergo surgery as soon as possible. For non-inflammatory foreskin, surgery is not necessary as long as the foreskin is pulled up and cleaned regularly.

Phimosis can be divided into true phimosis and false phimosis. True phimosis means that the glans cannot be fully exposed even after the penis is erect; false phimosis means that the glans cannot be fully exposed at normal times, but can be fully exposed after the penis is erect.

During puberty, the foreskin still covers the glans penis and cannot be exposed during erection, but the glans penis can be exposed when it is turned up by hand, which can be used to diagnose that the foreskin is too long.

Patients with prepuce that is too long should undergo circumcision as soon as possible. For non-inflamed foreskin, surgery is not necessary as long as the foreskin is pulled up and cleaned regularly.

For those with phimosis and prepuce that is too long, it is recommended to undergo circumcision before marriage. Resume sexual life after treatment. When those who have not undergone this treatment have sex, they should clean the penis locally before and after intercourse. In addition, they should keep the sexual organs locally lubricated, and avoid violent movements during intercourse to avoid incarcerated phimosis or frenulum tearing.

The baby is still relatively young and if he does not get infected often, no special treatment is needed at this age. The mother can be completely relaxed and wait until the baby is 7 years old to have surgery. The impact will not be too great and it will be safer to use anesthetics at that time.
