What causes colic in children?

If a child suddenly has a stomachache, parents will be very anxious. Because children are rarely able to express their pain correctly or describe their needs clearly. So when children have colic problems, what are the causes? In what situations will this disease occur? Today we will look at the problem of colic.

Once colic occurs, the baby will often have recurring abdominal pain and crying. The symptoms are better during the day, but in the evening or at night, there will be sudden and irregular crying, and the crying will continue for three or four hours. No matter what efforts are made, it is difficult to make him calm down. Most infants with this condition will experience restlessness, flushed face, curled knees, and clenched fists and kicking legs. They often have abdominal distension, also known as "bloating", which will not be relieved until the rapid intestinal peristalsis disappears or the gas is discharged. Usually the baby will calm down after a few hours of the attack.

"Colic" is the pain caused by spasm of the large intestine, which often makes babies cry non-stop, and can even continue crying for 1-2 hours. Since babies cannot speak, crying is the only way to express physical discomfort. Infant colic is characterized by intermittent crying.

Colic occurs because the baby's intestines and nerves are not fully developed. The movement/peristalsis of the digestive system at each stage is not well coordinated and controlled by the nerves, and the intestinal gas cannot be discharged smoothly, forming the basis for colic. A common developmental problem in which a well-nourished, healthy infant cries for at least 3 hours a day, 3 days a week, for more than 3 weeks.

Therefore, once a child shows any of these discomforts, parents must pay attention to giving the child timely treatment. Going to the hospital for examination and treatment in time is very helpful in alleviating children's pain. It is also important to note that you should give your child some warm water to drink to relieve discomfort.
