What types of hernias are there in children?

Nowadays, more and more children suffer from pediatric hernia when they are young. Many people think that pediatric hernia is just a minor problem, so they don’t pay attention to it. But in fact, this is not the case. There are many types of pediatric hernia. If you don’t understand this knowledge, you may miss the treatment time. If you understand it, you can take remedial measures in time, which may make your child suffer less pain.

Inguinal and femoral hernias

The most common hernia is the inguinal hernia, commonly known as inguinal hernia. During the fetal period, the abdominal cavity has a protruding pouch in the groin. When a normal person is born, this pouch should have closed, but some people do not close completely, so the contents of the abdominal cavity (such as intestines or peritoneum) will fall into this pouch, forming a hernia.

There is another type of "direct inguinal hernia", which often occurs in older patients. Due to factors such as long-term coughing, chronic constipation or difficulty urinating, the groin muscles become thinner and weaker, and therefore bulge out when standing, forming a hernia. There is also a "femoral fossa hernia" that is very common in women. The hernia does not bulge out from the groin, but from the femoral fossa below it. Umbilical hernia

Umbilical hernias usually close on their own and rarely require surgery. Two-thirds of umbilical hernias in children close by the age of one year. If the opening of the umbilical hernia is less than one centimeter, it will usually be almost closed before the age of two and will be closed before the age of five. If the gap is larger than two centimeters, it rarely closes on its own and must be repaired surgically. The best time to have surgery is between two and five years old. If a child over the age of six

If an umbilical hernia still exists, it should be repaired surgically because from this point on, the chance of umbilical hernia incarceration increases with age. If incarceration unfortunately occurs, surgery should be performed regardless of age.

Abdominal wall hernia

There are many types of hernias that occur in various locations, such as midline hernia and semilunar line hernia. The repair methods are divided into two types: tissue repair and artificial fascia implantation. Because it occurs less frequently, it is less likely to be noticed. Therefore, if you have unexplained lumps on your body, you should seek medical treatment as soon as possible.

So if you encounter hernia problems in children, you must learn more about it. After all, children are very weak.

If you don’t have knowledge in this area, it will not be of any benefit to your child, and it may even make his health worse, which is definitely what you don’t want to see.
