Symptoms of cerebral palsy in five-month-old babies

Many children are born with mental retardation, which is commonly known as cerebral palsy. Many people are not particularly clear about the symptoms of cerebral palsy in five-month-old babies. We all know that a five-month-old baby with cerebral palsy may have difficulties with vision, intelligence, and hearing. So what are its symptoms? Let's hear what industry insiders say. I hope every mother can be vigilant.

Symptoms of cerebral palsy in a five-month-old baby:

1. Visual impairment: Medical research shows that 20%-50% of children with cerebral palsy have visual impairment, the most common of which are eye coordination disorders such as esotropia and exotropia, followed by nystagmus and gaze disorders, as well as pursuit and upward vision paralysis. There are also many children with myopia, hyperopia, and amblyopia, and the incidence of visual field defects is very high.

2. Intellectual disability: Among these children, about 25% have normal intelligence, about 50% have mild or moderate intellectual disability, and the remaining 25% have severe intellectual disability.

3. Hearing impairment: Athetoid cerebral palsy caused by severe neonatal jaundice is mostly accompanied by hearing impairment, and the degree of hearing impairment varies from single-tone to bass impairment. Children suspected of hearing impairment should undergo auditory evoked potential or electrical response audiometry examination.

4. Orofacial dysfunction: Due to abnormal and incoordinated muscle tone of the facial muscles, oral cavity and tongue muscles, as well as the persistence of some pathological primitive reflexes, such as the long-term existence of biting reflex and vomiting reflex, children with cerebral palsy have difficulty chewing and swallowing, poor oral closure and drooling.

5. Language disorders: In addition to intellectual disability and late speech, approximately 30%-70% of children with cerebral palsy have varying degrees of language disorders, manifested as unclear pronunciation, speaking too fast or too slow, or inaccurate and unfluent speech.

6. Epilepsy: 25%-35% of people with cerebral palsy suffer from epilepsy. Some studies show that the rate is as high as half. Among them, cerebral palsy caused by intracranial infection, hemorrhage and toxic encephalopathy after birth is the most common.

I don’t know if you have a deep understanding of the symptoms of cerebral palsy in five-month-old babies after reading the above article. I hope parents will remember to go to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible after finding that their children have the above symptoms. Early treatment may recover some losses, and the child’s intelligence can be restored a little. It is always good to recover a little.
