What should I pay attention to if my baby always has eye mucus?

What should you pay attention to if your baby always has eye mucus? If your baby always has eye mucus, you should first know the cause of it, and also pay attention to your baby's diet. Do not let your baby's diet be affected. Adjusting your baby's diet is beneficial to your baby's healthy growth and will have a certain help on your baby's physical development. If your baby often has eye mucus, you should let him/her rest more.

Babies always have eye mucus. Due to the incomplete development of their body systems and organs, babies are particularly sensitive to climate changes. The weather is dry in autumn and babies are prone to getting inflamed. For this reason, mothers should adjust their babies’ autumn diet in time and act as firefighters to prevent their babies from getting inflamed.

Child nutritionist's advice:

1. Adjust your baby’s diet in time to prevent “autumn dryness”.

2. Choose more coarse grains and beans that can clear away heat and dryness, such as oatmeal, yellow millet, corn, mung beans, white kidney beans, etc.;

3. Eat more seasonal fruits and vegetables in autumn, such as radish, green leafy vegetables, taro, pumpkin, cucumber, raw pear, etc. These seasonal fruits and vegetables have the effect of clearing heat and moistening the lungs;

4. Try to choose meat dishes that nourish yin and moisten dryness - duck meat, river fish, river shrimp, etc.

Special reminder: Drink more boiled water and less sugary drinks; put more soup and vegetables on the dinner table, and less greasy and meat dishes.

There are two reasons why children have a lot of eye mucus:

(1) Infection factors: intrauterine infection of the newborn or contact with vaginal secretions containing bacteria during delivery, contaminated hands of the midwife, or unclean supplies that the newborn comes into contact with after birth. If the caregiver's hands, the child's own hands, or a towel that is not thoroughly disinfected is used to wipe the child's eyes, it will cause inflammation of the child's conjunctiva, resulting in excessive and sticky eye mucus.

(2) Non-infectious factors: In some children, the nasolacrimal duct is blocked by epithelial cell residues or the nasolacrimal duct mucosa is blocked, causing tears and secretions in the tear duct to be retained in the lacrimal sac and causing dacryocystitis. Such children have a cystic tumor in the lacrimal sac with a slightly bluish surface. If the lacrimal sac on the inner side of the eye is gently pressed, mucous or mucopurulent secretions can be seen overflowing from the tear point at the lower edge of the inner corner of the eye, and the tumor disappears.

Solution:

The indoor temperature and humidity are moderate. Open the windows for ventilation twice a day for 20 minutes each time to ensure fresh indoor air.

Do a good job of disinfecting the items used by children and ensure that all their supplies are clean and hygienic.

For children with a lot of eye mucus and conjunctival congestion, you can use normal saline to clean the eyes, and then use 1% erythromycin eye drops or 0.25% chloramphenicol eye drops three times a day during the day, and use chloramphenicol eye ointment at night.

For children with nasolacrimal duct obstruction or dacryocystitis, ask a professional doctor to flush the tear duct, then use antibiotic eye drops 6 times a day, take oral antibiotics, and massage the lacrimal sac 3 times a day for treatment.

Children with excessive eye mucus and tearing who have not responded well to antibiotic treatment should go to a professional hospital for examination and then receive targeted treatment.

If your baby always has eye mucus, you need to find a way to eliminate the symptoms. If you don’t know how to solve it, you need to seek help from a doctor. Many problems are inevitable during the baby’s growth, and mothers must learn to deal with these common problems. It is a very common problem for babies to always have eye mucus, and mothers need to know how to deal with this problem.
