Polio is a pediatric disease that everyone has heard of. At the same time, when this disease occurs, there will be many complications. Among them, there are patients with polio who have fever. Since we don’t know much about this, we don’t know what to do. Let’s learn about it together below. Acute treatment 1. General treatment: Bed rest and isolation for at least 40 days after onset, avoid fatigue, apply local hot and wet compresses to relieve pain, and place paralyzed limbs in functional positions to prevent deformities such as hand and foot drop. Pay attention to nutrition and fluid balance. Take large amounts of vitamin C and B group orally. For early patients with high fever and severe poisoning symptoms, consider intramuscular injection of immunoglobulin preparations, 3 to 6 ml per day for 2 to 3 consecutive days. Severe patients can be given oral prednisone or intravenous hydrocortisone. It is usually used for 3 to 5 days, and antibacterial drugs are added in case of secondary infection. 2. Treatment of respiratory disorders: Severely ill patients often experience respiratory disorders, which cause hypoxia and carbon dioxide retention, and are often the main cause of death. First of all, the cause of the respiratory disorder must be identified and rescue must be carried out actively. The airway must be kept open. Sedatives should be used with caution for those who are restless due to hypoxia to avoid aggravating breathing and swallowing difficulties. Antimicrobial drugs should be used early to prevent secondary lung infections. Close attention should be paid to changes in blood gas and electrolyte disorders, and they should be corrected at any time. 3. Promote recovery from paralysis: The patient should lie on a hard bed with a mattress, pay attention to the care of the paralyzed limbs, avoid trauma and pressure, and place them in a comfortable functional position to prevent wrist and foot drop. If there is constipation and urinary retention, enema and catheterization should be given appropriately. For Chinese medicine treatment, Duhuo Jishe Decoction can be used with modifications. Treatment of respiratory disorders and dysphagia, and prevention and treatment of circulatory failure. 4. Promote the recovery of nerve conduction function Drugs that promote nerve conduction function, such as dibazole and lanthamine, are not very effective and are rarely used nowadays. When the fever subsides and the paralysis no longer progresses, the following therapies should be used as soon as possible. Acupuncture treatment Poliomyelitis is suitable for those who are young, have a short course of illness, and have no obvious limb atrophy. Acupoints can be selected according to the location of paralysis. For the upper limbs, the cervical Jiaji points, Jianzhen, Dazhui, Shousanli, Shaohai, Neiguan, Hegu, and Houxi are often used. 2 to 3 points are selected each time. For the lower limbs, 1 inch away from the waist and spine is often selected, including Huantiao, Zhibian, Tiaotiao, Yushu, Biguan, Yinlian, Siqiang, Futu, Chengfu, Yinmen, Jizhong, Yanglingquan, Zusanli, Jiexi, Taixi, Juegu, Fengshi, Chengshan, and Luodi. According to the main muscle groups involved in the paralyzed limbs, 3 to 4 related acupoints are selected and they can be changed and performed in rotation each time, once a day, 10 to 15 times as a course of treatment, and 3 to 5 days between two courses of treatment. At the beginning of treatment, strong stimulation is used to achieve therapeutic effects, then medium stimulation is used to consolidate the therapeutic effects. Electroacupuncture or water injection can be used. 1 to 2 acupoints are selected each time to inject vitamin B1, γ-aminobutyric acid or the Chinese medicine compound angelica liquid (angelica, safflower, and Chuanxiong preparation) for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, 0.5 to 1.0 ml per acupoint. Massage therapy Roll the paralyzed limb back and forth for 8 to 10 minutes, massage and relax the joints for 3 to 5 minutes, rub the relevant spine and limbs 5 to 6 times, and rub the local area to warm it up. Do this once a day or every other day. You can teach your family members to do it at home. Functional Exercise For severely paralyzed limbs that cannot move, massage and acupressure can be used first to promote blood circulation in the affected limb, improve muscle nutrition and nerve regulation, and enhance muscle strength. For those whose affected limbs can make slight movements but have very poor muscle strength, they can be assisted to make passive movements such as extension, flexion, abduction, and adduction. When the limbs can move but the muscle strength is still poor, the patients are encouraged to make automatic movements and undergo physical therapy, using physical therapy tools to exercise muscle strength and correct deformities. physiotherapy Hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, wax therapy, phototherapy, etc. can be used to relax diseased muscles, increase local blood flow and absorb inflammation.
