What is the reason for bad breath in a 1 and a half year old baby?

A one and a half year old baby has begun to gradually adapt to the external environment. One and a half year old babies may also have bad breath. There are many reasons for bad breath in one and a half year old babies. In order to ensure the baby's health, let us understand the reasons for bad breath in one and a half year old babies.

The main causes of bad breath in children:

1. Reduced saliva

Babies usually drink little water, and with age or disease factors, the saliva flow rate decreases. If the water and saliva in the mouth decrease, the mouth becomes dry, and the decomposition and release of bacteria and the release of volatile products increase, bad odor will occur in the mouth.

2. Oral uncleanness

Bad breath often occurs if the baby is not given a good habit of rinsing his mouth and brushing his teeth, or if the baby has tooth decay. The reason is that there is milk accumulation or food residue in the mouth that has not been cleaned in time, or the food stuck in the gaps between teeth and in cavities has fermented and rotted, thus emitting unpleasant or foul smells.

3. Indigestion

When children eat too many snacks and have an irregular diet, it increases the burden on the gastrointestinal tract, damages the spleen and stomach, and causes gastrointestinal diseases, digestive dysfunction, and indigestion. Children will then show symptoms such as anorexia, bad breath, and constipation.

Prevention and treatment measures for bad breath in children:

Based on these reasons, the following preventive measures should be taken in a targeted manner:

1. Cultivate the habit of paying attention to oral hygiene in children from an early age. Rinse your mouth after meals and brush your teeth in the morning and evening.

2. Eat regularly. Eat more vegetables and fruits, and combine coarse and fine foods. Don’t be picky or biased about food, and don’t overeat.

3. Prevent indigestion. When indigestion occurs, you can take some digestive and gastrointestinal motility drugs appropriately.

4. Pay attention to the prevention and timely treatment of caries and malocclusion. Eat less sweets, especially before going to bed.

5. Use decoction of Chinese medicine reed root, mint, and patchouli; or 1% hydrogen peroxide, 2% soda water, 2% boric acid water, etc., choose one of them to gargle with to reduce bad breath.

6. Have an oral examination every six months.

The above are the reasons why one and a half year old babies have bad breath. I believe that after my introduction, everyone will find out what causes their baby to have various oral conditions. Don’t just think that it is due to external reasons. My own intestinal indigestion can also cause bad breath in babies, so you must pay attention to some habits in daily life.
