How to tell whether a child's cough is caused by cold or wind

Cold and cough are very common in life, especially for some children. As long as they catch a cold, they will definitely cough. The more common colds are divided into two types: wind-cold colds and wind-heat colds. The clinical manifestations of these two colds are different, so when using medicines, some targeted medicines should also be used. So how to distinguish whether a child's cough is caused by wind-cold or wind-heat?

1. Wind-heat cough symptoms include fever, runny nose, cough, phlegm in the throat, coughing up yellow phlegm, worse during the day and better at night, yellow and red urine, dry stool, floating and rapid pulse, red tongue with thick and greasy coating, and red and purple fingerprints. The treatment is to dispel wind and clear the lungs, resolve phlegm and relieve cough. The recipe uses fish clam and stone flower soup: 30g gypsum, 10g houttuynia, 10g honeysuckle, 10g clam powder, 10g almond, 10g peucedanum, 6g fritillaria, 6g orange peel, and 6g oroxylum. Decoction, 1 dose per day, decoct twice in water to obtain about 200 ml of juice, take in 3 to 4 times, add a little sugar as an inducer. (Suitable for children aged 5 years old).

2. Wind-cold cough syndrome is characterized by frequent coughing, thin white sputum, aversion to cold without sweating, fever, headache, nasal congestion, sneezing and clear runny nose, itchy throat, body aches, clear and long urination, floating and tight pulse, thin white tongue coating, and red fingerprints. The treatment is to dispel wind and cold, promote lung function and relieve cough. The prescription used is Su Jue Gan Cao Tang: 10g of perilla leaves, 6g of platycodon, 3g of ephedra, 6g of licorice, and 6g of tangerine peel. Decoction in water and take as before.

3. Yin deficiency and dry cough syndrome is characterized by prolonged cough, dry cough without sputum, or little and sticky sputum that is not easy to cough up, thirst and dry throat, itchy throat and hoarseness, hot hands and feet, low fever in the afternoon, constipation, thin pulse, red tongue with little coating, and purple and blue fingerprints. The treatment is to clear the lungs and nourish yin, resolve phlegm and relieve cough. The prescription used is Yangfei Zhike Decoction: 15g of raw rehmannia, 10g of northern adenophora, 10g of ophiopogon, 6g of schisandra, and 6g of fennel. Decoction in water and take as before. 4. Lung cold cough Cough caused by cold weather in autumn and winter or sudden exposure to wind and cold, which does not heal for a long time, is lighter during the day and heavier at night, with cough and sputum, white and thin sputum, loose stools and clear urine, poor appetite and fatigue, thin and slow pulse, pale tongue with thin white coating, and dark fingerprints. The treatment is to warm the lungs and dispel cold, resolve phlegm and relieve cough. The prescription used is Donghua Wuzhi Drink: roasted Donghua 10g, roasted apricot kernel 10g, roasted loquat leaf 15g, roasted purple flower 6g, and roasted rice husk 6g. Decoction, same as before
