Fetal umbilical cord blood flow test results

Everyone knows that nowadays pregnant women have to go for a check-up every month to prevent any problems with the baby. After the check-up, everyone feels relieved. However, some small hospitals do not have adequate examination equipment, so even if the baby has a disease, it cannot be detected. So I still recommend that you go to a larger hospital for check-up! So, what are the results of the fetal umbilical cord blood flow test? Let me introduce it to you below.

Fetal umbilical cord blood flow is one of the indicators reflecting the state of fetal placental circulation. In normal pregnancy, with the increase of gestational age, the placental circulation resistance decreases, the blood flow increases, and the umbilical cord blood flow S/D ratio decreases. When the placental circulation resistance increases, the S/D ratio of the fetal umbilical blood flow becomes abnormal. When the fetal umbilical blood flow is abnormal, the fetus suffers from intrauterine ischemia and hypoxia, which can lead to adverse perinatal prognosis. This study aims to reduce adverse perinatal prognosis by treating fetuses with abnormal umbilical blood flow at different gestational weeks.

Fetal umbilical cord blood flow test results:

1. The number of cases of abnormal fetal umbilical cord blood flow was 180 cases (accounting for 10.7%) among 1680 pregnant women, including 6 cases (accounting for 3.3%) with S/D>4.0, 26 cases (accounting for 14.4%) with S/D3.5-4.0, 58 cases (accounting for 34.5%) with S/D3.0-3.5, and 90 cases (accounting for 50%) with S/D2.7-3.0.

2. Abnormal fetal umbilical blood flow and abnormal factors observed during delivery. Among the 180 pregnant women with abnormal fetal umbilical blood flow, 98 cases (54.4%) had umbilical cord around the neck, 20 cases (11.1%) had umbilical cord too short, 5 cases (2.8%) had umbilical cord too thin, 12 cases (6.7%) had umbilical cord knotting, 20 cases (11.1%) had oligohydramnios, and 25 cases (13.9%) had no abnormalities.

2. The relationship between different abnormal umbilical blood flow values and delivery outcomes: S/D>4.06 cases (5 cases of umbilical cord factors, 1 case of oligohydramnios), all of which were delivered by cesarean section; SD≥3.5~4.026 cases (19 cases of umbilical cord factors, 7 cases of oligohydramnios), 25 cases of cesarean section, 1 case of vaginal delivery; S/D≥3.0~3.558 cases (39 cases of umbilical cord factors, 12 cases of oligohydramnios, 7 cases of normal abnormality), 41 cases of cesarean section, 17 cases of vaginal delivery; S/D≥2.7~3.090 cases (72 cases of umbilical cord factors, 0 cases of oligohydramnios, 18 cases of normal abnormality), 27 cases of cesarean section, 63 cases of vaginal delivery.

In order to avoid this unfortunate incident, it must be discovered in time before delivery. Currently, umbilical cord blood tests are performed on older pregnant women, which rarely poses a risk to the mother and fetus. For the sake of eugenics, it is better for older mothers to have an umbilical cord blood test.
