What should we pay attention to when caring for newborns?

After the joy from the moment the baby is born, what worries more parents is how to take better care of the baby. Taking care of a baby is not an easy task, especially for newborns. They may not be particularly adapted to the environment when they first come into this world. Therefore, special attention should be paid to the care of newborns. In order to take better care of the baby, let's learn about what we need to pay attention to in newborn care.

What should we pay attention to when caring for newborns?

1. Feeding knowledge

Breast milk is the best way to feed newborn babies, and the earlier the feeding, the better. Within half an hour after the baby is born, if the mother's breasts have not yet secreted milk, the baby should suck the nipple to promote milk secretion. At the same time, breastfeeding can enhance the relationship between child and mother.

When breastfeeding your baby, feeding posture is also very important. Among them, experts generally recognize that the most ergonomic feeding posture is the "vertical holding position", which means that the baby's head is slightly raised during feeding. Babies can also look at their mothers while drinking milk, which enhances their relationship. Before feeding the baby, the mother should keep the nipples clean. After feeding, it is best to squeeze out the remaining milk in the breast to prevent milk accumulation and promote normal milk secretion in the breast.

2. Clothes and diapers

Newborns have delicate skin, so their clothes and diapers should be made of pure cotton with good water absorption properties. Secondly, clothes should be light-colored, which can not only prevent babies from being infected by bleaching pigments, but also make it easier for parents to detect dirt on clothes in time and keep the babies clean. Babies have sparse hair and their heads dissipate heat quickly, so they are prone to catching cold. When the weather is cold or there is wind outside, it is best to put a small hat on the baby.

Diapers need to be changed frequently, and mothers should wash them diligently and carefully. Diapers should be changed at least 4 times a day during the day and more than 2 times at night. Every time diapers are changed, the baby's butt should be washed and dried, and it is best to apply a little skin care oil. If you use diapers, you need to choose breathable and soft ones. They should not be wrapped too tightly to ensure that the baby's bottom is dry and breathable.

3. Sleep and sleeping posture

Newborns sleep for up to 18-20 hours a day, but it is not advisable for newborns to sleep for too long. Parents need to wake them up every 2-3 hours to let them move around or feed them.

The sleeping posture of a newborn will affect its breathing and head development. A good sleeping posture with a comfortable and soft pillow is beneficial to the growth and development of the newborn.

It is better for newborns to sleep in a supine position so as not to compress the lungs and cause breathing difficulties. After feeding, it is best to sleep on your side to prevent the stomach from being compressed and milk from overflowing when lying flat.

4. Disease care

Newborns have low immunity, so special attention should be paid to hygiene when caring for them. Parents or others should wash their hands before touching the baby. Bacteria coming into contact with the baby's skin may cause skin infection. After bathing your baby, wipe off the water with a dry towel. Apply talcum powder to the skin folds that are difficult to clean, or use a hair dryer to dry it slowly at low speed. Damp skin is also prone to skin infection.

If the newborn has symptoms such as constipation, fever, cold, etc., seek medical attention in time and do not treat it on your own.

The above is an introduction to what you need to pay attention to when caring for a newborn. When taking care of a newborn, you must pay special attention not to let the newborn get hot, as this is particularly likely to cause eczema. In addition, after the baby is born, you must observe whether the baby has jaundice. If jaundice is present, treat it immediately.
