Causes of swollen eyelids in children

Causes of swollen eyelids in children

Swollen eyelids in children is a very common phenomenon, and it is this common phenomenon that has a great impact on children. It not only affects their lives, but also their mental health. In such circumstances, the parents of the children should observe such phenomena in their children in time, carefully observe the causes, and take some relief measures.

1. Non-inflammatory eyelid swelling without congestion: The eyelid skin is the thinnest part of the skin on the whole body, and slight edema may first manifest as eyelid edema. Common causes include allergies, insect bites, angioedema, compression by tumors near the eyelids and eye sockets, lacrimal gland prolapse, blepharoplasty, chalazion, etc. Systemic diseases that may easily cause eyelid edema include chronic nephritis, hypothyroidism, severe cough, heart failure, etc.

2. Inflammatory eyelid swelling is accompanied by redness and pain: such as eyelid furuncle, tarsalgia, blepharitis, etc.

3. Conjunctival edema: The conjunctiva is a very thin, translucent membrane. When edematous, it bulges like a bubble. In severe cases, it protrudes out of the palpebral fissure, and you may even be unable to close your eyes. Edema not caused by inflammation is generally not congested. It is common in allergies, toxic reactions to drugs or chemicals, compression of tumors in the eyelids and eye sockets, foreign body reactions, etc.

Some people also have swollen eyelids. The main reason is kidney problems which can cause swollen eyelids. There are other reasons that can cause swollen eyes, such as drinking too much water before going to bed, etc.

In daily life, dry eyes are mainly caused by improper cleaning or prolonged use of computers. It is also easy to cause some eye inflammations, such as keratitis, cyclitis, etc., which can easily cause damage to the eyes. Please pay attention to moderate health care, such as reducing computer time, doing eye exercises, and using health eye drops. If you don’t have the habit of drinking water before going to bed (generally try not to drink water after 10 pm, and don’t drink too much water at night), then it is recommended that you take your baby to the hospital for a check-up.

Swollen eyes are one of the early signs of kidney disease in children, but parents do not need to panic when their children have swollen eyes, because kidney disease is not the only reason for children's swollen eyes.

Causes of swollen eyes in children:

1. Poor sleep. If you stay up late at night (watching TV, etc.), you will have less sleep time, and your eyes will be swollen when you get up in the morning. Some people will feel pain and swelling in their eyes. For example, some people are nervous and can't sleep well at night, and they may also have swollen eyes when they get up in the morning.

2. It is related to the sleeping posture. For example, some children occasionally do not use pillows, and their eyes may be swollen after sleeping for a night. However, some children never use pillows when sleeping, and their eyes will not be swollen. This may be related to personal habits.

3. It is related to drinking water. Some children drink a lot of water before going to bed, so they will have swollen eyes in the morning, which will disappear during the day.

The above eye swelling is normal, so if it is clearly caused by these reasons, don't worry. Eye swelling related to diseases mainly includes: skin disease, heart and kidney dysfunction, and angioedema.

5. Children's kidney disease causes swollen eyes.

After excluding other causes of eye swelling besides pediatric kidney disease, the edema may be caused by pediatric kidney disease. Since pediatric kidney disease is a chronic disease (except acute nephritis), there may be no obvious symptoms that make the patient very uncomfortable at the beginning of the disease. Therefore, after getting up in the morning, different degrees of eyelid edema is often an early symptom of kidney disease.

If the child has a good night's rest and none of the above non-renal causes cause the eye swelling, then parents should take the child to the hospital for relevant examinations to confirm whether it is pediatric kidney disease.

The above is about the problem of swollen eyelids in children. I hope it will be helpful to everyone. In many cases, what we need to do is to observe the child’s physical condition in time. That’s good. Pay more attention to the child’s physical health. This is already very good. Children are a group we need to pay attention to. Let’s pay attention to their physical health.
